Try replacing the oil sending unit, it is located at the back of the intake. it is about two inches long. it is black. it ties into the fuel injection system.hope this helps.

Oil light on while running

Normally, the oil light indicates low oil pressure, usually due to lowe oil level. That being said, is you have a constant oil light with the engine running and you are not getting clacking noises from the valves, you may have a defective oil sender. Regardless, it is not worth destroying the engine to find out. You should immediately shut the engine and check the oil level. If it is very low, add oil and retest. If the fault persists, attach a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine. If the pressure is normal (usually 30-45 psi), then change the oil pressure sensor. If the oil pressure is less that 20 psi, you should investigate the oil sump and pump for problems.

Tip

Running an engine in

When cold-starting the engine, always run the engine warm gently. This will help considerably to make the engine last a long time. Vary the engine load when driving on the motorway for the first time: change the load condition and only run the engine at very low or very high revs for short periods. The accelerator pedal should only be pressed right down in emergency situations. Only use high-grade branded oil of the quality specified in the owner’s manual. If you have to top up with oil, this should have the same viscosity as the original oil. In general, all branded oils from known oil companies meet Audi’s demands and can be mixed with each other.

2001 Chevy Silverado c1500 pickup has very low oil pressure, what do I need to look at?

Do not drive the truck until the issue is resolved.

1. Make sure the oil is at the proper level in the engine with the correct spec oil for the pickup. Oh it is normal for the oil pressure to be a little low at idle and go up to the normal range as the engine rpm goes up to normal operating range.

2. It could be either a real problem or a problem with the oil pressure indicator. To verify which connect a mechanical test pressure gauge of the proper range say a 0-100 psig scale to the point where the oil pressure sensor is connected. After it is connected test run the engine for a short period. If the pressure shows normal replace the oil pressure sensor. If the gauge confirms the low oil pressure then you have a serious issue in the engine. It could be:

1. Bad oil pump or oil pressure relief valve

2. excessive clearance in the bearings due to high miles.

Engine started tapping ,then car shut off and has no oil ptessure. will start but wont move

time for a rebuild or replacement. the vehicle knock sensor most likely is what shut the car off to prevent damage. if vehicle has been forced to start after the fact in repairable engine damage has most likely taken place. you cannot run an engine with no oil pressure, low oil pressure can be ok in an emergency but never ever run your engine with no oil pressure

If your dipstick reads dry, do NOT run the engine or drive it until you find the leak-there is no reasonable explaination for that condition, it is leaking somehow, period. If you insist on driving it, it will damage or destroy the engine in a very short time-get it checked out (have it towed), it is going to be a very expensive problem if you let it go.

When the truck runs for (30 minutes plus) the engine starts having a ticking noise coming from it. There is no oil leaking but I was told that it is probably the oil pump. If so does the oil pan have to...

It is most likely a lazy lifter or a loose rocker on the valve train. I would not remove or replace the oil pump at all, unless you have low pressure and tested the pressure, but usually, low oil pressure for a short period of time creates catastrophic damage by the time it is realized.

The Warning Light Comes on "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" what does this mean

car needs oil pressure or bearings will wear out in short time. Do not drive or start engine with this light on. Might only be pressure sending unit. Can replace sending unit and start briefly to see if problem resolves. If light still stays on, shut off engine and have oil pump replaced.
