Hi, there is a published technical service bulletin about this problem for these vehicles and the tahoes. the compressor sitting so low in the system, gets over-run by the liquid freon banging internally and actually locks up on and off during operation. this is the noise you are hearing. apparently there is a screen kit to install in the low side suction line to prevent this from happening, but GM also states the compressor needs to be replaced and the new compressors from GM at least, already have this modification done. So, i replace them when they come into my bay with the complaint you speak of, and the tensioner for the belt, likely the belt too. but it looks like you already know all about that. hope i could help.

Sounds like you have a low vacuum signal to the AC mode control switch.

Would a bad serpentine belt on my 2008 Mustang cause my heater to blow cold air sometimes

if the serpentine belt is original then have it changed as it is probably hard and not gripping properly
it is a reason that the ac compressor will not be at full efficiency , just like power steering not as good as it should be and alternator not charging properly
the inspection of the belt is in the grooved section and it shows minute cracks in the groove ribs then it is overdue for a change

I have a 96 Ford Taurus and when I turn the engine on, and while accelerating there's a squeaking sound.

Well,a drive belt needs to be replaced every 50,000 mi. or so,and a weak tensioner can allow slack which causes sqeak even if the belt is good.
The idler pulley on those is easy to replace also. If the tensioner isn't holding the drive belt very tighly, replace it and the belt.
Auto Zone will let you put down a deposit and borrow a tool to work the tensioner so the belt can be easily removed. don-ohio

What's the CHEAPEST fix for my loud ac compressor?

I have a2004 mustang with a 3.9 making the same noise, and the shop replaced the AC compressor and all belt tensioners. I found that the noise is the timing chain tensionors .

I hear loud noise when I turn on air conditioner in my 2001 Chevy Suburban, it only makes noise when I accellerate or push gas in park. No noise when I am idled. But air blows cold still.

Check for wear or other faults all of the following: The belt, fan clutch, Check A/C compressor&clutch for damage. Check A/C compressor for damaged or faulty temperature switch switching compressor off and on too rapidly, or low oil level.Check A/C hoses for metal A/C Lines vibrating against other components under the hood, or faulty blower motor bushings. Hope this helps you out.

I have a 2001 Yukon XL 1500. I broke an AC belt. I had the belt replaced and the system recharged. It now makes a noise when you accelerate after start up. But that is the only time. AC blows cold...

Actually, you both could be right. It may be the bearing inside the compressor. The compressor does not make the cold air,it helps pressurize the system to get the freon from the evaporator to the condenser. The evaporator provides the cold air.If you can, open your hood and have someone start your car.Have them give it some gas and see if you can pinpoint the noise more accurately. If your compressor bearing causes it to seize up,you will probably only get a couple of miles before your belt snaps.Another slight possibility is the tensioner. It's pretty rare but stranger things have happened.I did have a compressor seizure years ago and snapped a belt though. If you can pinpoint the noise it would help to know.If you can't I would like a better description of the noise though.Good luck! 03 suburban ac problem

Put a new belt on it and spray the condenser coil in front of the radiator with a hose when it gets up to temp or the sound starts and see if it stops. Thats what I did today. Flapping/clacking stops for about 10 minutes until thing get hot again.A/C blowing cold air the entire time.

2003 Tahoe (5.3). AC belt/tensioner/compressor (Chatters)

The compressor is bad. I have the same problem. Apparently none of the tahoe's compressors are worth a ****! im having to replace mine too. You have to change the compressor, the accumulator/dryer, orifice tube and flush the lines. If you look on ebay you can buy a complete kit to change it all for about 300 bucks. The dealership tells me that you need to change the fan clutch as well. They told me that the reason for the noises is the fan clutch isnt working properly and it lets the compressor get too hot causeing higher pressures in the compressor due to the heat. They called it liquid slugging I believe. Mine doesnt break the belt but when you give it very much gas it makes a squeal and then a grinding noise like your trying to put a standard transmission in gear with it running without pushing in the clutch. I asked if you could just change the fan clutch and they told me no its too late, you have to change the compressor and dryer/orifice tube.
