Question about Ford F-250

1 Answer

My first problem is that when you start the truck, it doesn't run smoothly at the start. It seems to run rough and not have full power for about 5 mins. Second problem is that at about 1100 revs it starts making a vibrating noise that comes from the engine, almost like a rattle. The noise comes and goes. My truck is a diesel 2006 6 liter.

Do you have a check engine light on or have you had it scanned for codes? When it's cold do you have to crank it a long time or does it fire right up but run rough?

Hard starting, rough idle when cold, then smooth running when warm

Need year/make/model/mileage of vehicle to provide a more specific set of troubleshooting steps.

When was the last tune up? Hard starts when cold are usually caused by fouled spark plugs, worn plug wires, or weak ignition coils. Fuel systems are not as effected by temperature changes as the ignition components.

Hei, the most likely is a fault ignition cassette or injector nr 5!? If you have a scope and know how to use it, is easy to see where is the fault!

Rough idle and lack of power

Since you have fuel injection for fuel delivery, something has to tell the system how long to have the fuel injectors open, and something has to tell the system when to activate each fuel injector ... unless you have throttle body injection. Do you know which type of fuel injection you have? I will need that answer above before telling you anything useful.

RUNS ROUGH STALLS CHECK ENG LIGHT ON

The plug is located at the bottom of the steering column. The fault seems to be the mass air meter though.

Running "rough"

I had the same issue with my venture. It turned out to be the number 5 plug wire, backside of engine ended up breaking out of the plug carrier and burning in half on the manifold. Your best bet is to trace all the wires to start off with and change the plugs. If that doesn't help, it may be internal. Good luck
