Extra power requirements are causing a drain on your alternator....

can you tell me what you did to verify the alternator is "fine"

did you take the alternator or the car itself?

  • garywigley78 Jun 07, 2010

i just took the alternator because i dont trust the car. sometimes it dont like to start back up when it dies

then you have just a few possible problems...

    • volt drop of either the battery cable from the alt/bat

    • volt drop of the circuits from the alt/PCM

    • defective PCM
if you just want to replace parts I'd start with the battery cable from the alternator to the battery

honestly... what you need to do is have the charging system tested professionally

a place like Sears can do this for under $20
however, the track record there is limited to who the techs are working
a lot of Sears stores have a lot of good techs
others are just a lot of tech school drop outs

better choice would be a real known good garage but there it will cost $60+

the reason you should have it tested is because these test(s) will tell you everything you need to know without throwing parts

could be that the base engine idle is just too low and you have no charging concerns

Car cut off while driving. will turn over but not start. battery is fine

Check fuel pressure in fuel rail. Fuel pump may have died or fuel filter clogged. Pump is accessible from inside truck on pass side. Expect to pay about $250 for new pump!

Fuel Pump, power seats, windows and mirror all stoped working at

You might want to check the battery cables and if there is a smaller chassis wire from the battery. Clean these. It sounds like you lost a ground wire somewhere and it is trying to ground through any wire it can find.
