Question about 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

3 Answers

I have a malibu 2006, brake lights stay on. I have already changed my switch at the garage 2 times now, sept 2009 and may 27 2010 & today the problem has come back, the last switch I was told was no longer good, I will be going in the garage again this week, but would like to know what else could be the problem, it seems to me it can't always be the switch, my car battery has never failed. Help me out hear.

The brake sensor switch most likely needs to be calibrated at a Chevrolet dealer. Call one and ask them about it.

This same problem happened on my 2008 malibu. I also had problems with my cruise control and traction control circuits malfunctioning. You can find the solution here for all malibus: http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/GM-Chevrolet-Malibu-Brake-Pedal-Off-Tail-Lights-On-Repair-Guide/

2006 Malibu Maxx SS transmission.Only drives in M and reverse.

It might have gone into safe mode but I would have expected safe mode to permit the vehicle only into low and reverse but your car might be different. Is the problem accompanied by dashboard lights staying on that did not stay on before. I would say that this is definitely one for a garage mechanic as , padricularly if dash lights are on, it would need diagnostic equopment to identify the problem

Good Luck

2006 malibu wont come out of park no brake lights

Go under the dash and check the brake light switch, it should have 12 volts present at the 2 terminal connector at all times and 12 volts at both sides of the connector when the pedal is pressed, replace the connector the switch based on the test results, if no power at all check the fuse for the brake light circuit. The brake lights are what allows part to release, no lights locked in park

Your brake light switch ia faulty. It should be located down toward the bottom of the steering column on the brake pedal arm.

Just dealing the with same problem. You need to take the car to have the electronics systems tested. Trust me it will save you a lot of time and frustration and it pays for itself because you don't end up guessing at parts. The oil pump can be tested at your local garage with a pump pressure sensor.

I have a 2006 chevrolet malibu maxx and the brake light is on and a alarm goes off when the brakes are hit hard

IT COULD BE LOTS OF THINGS BUT I WOULD INSPECT THE BRAKE PADS, & ROTORS ,IT COULD SIMPLY BE LETTING YOU KNOW IT'S TIME TO RELINE THE BRAKES.

Let's find out before i get rear ended @ 70mph

Does the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) work ?

If this does not work, check the BPP ( Brake Pedal Position ) Switch, mounted on the brake pedal lever. There should be 4 wires to it, 2 are for the shift interlock, the other 2 are the brake lamp switch.

The brake lamp switch feeds direct the CHMSL and the MFS for the Stop/Turn combo lamps.

Without a CHMSL, I would suspect the BPP switch.

The wire colors on the F-150 are Light Green & Light Green w/ Red stripe for the stop lamp circuit. If you have this color combo, unplug the connector, and try jumpering the 2 together, to see if you have brake lamps.

Assuming the mechanic already checked the fuse for the BPP

Brake lights stay on

u will need to replace the brake light switch, it is located at the top of the arm the brake pedal is attached to, simple hand tools to replace, very easy job, part very cheap.

20 amp fuse for brake lights continually blows out

you have a short in the wiring to your brake circuit.check the pedal switch,it could be cracked and shorting out.those switches are known for having the tail lights stay on until you hit it a few times.the other thing to check is the light assemblies.there may be enough corrosion to cause a short.instead of a fuse, wire a bulb across an open fuse.when the short shows up the bulb will light.use a 25 watt bulb.
