It sounds like it may be your O2 sensor because if it is not working properly, the engine cannot determine how much fuel to ingest which would cause rough idling.

  • sometimes a bad 02 sensor causes a fuel smell from the exhaust, or you can just remove and check the sensor. if its really black "like charcoal" you might wana get it changed, also checked the wires on it and make sure they're not torn or anything. have scanned to find problem code if check engine light is on. good luck!!

A failing catalytic converter can cause a rich fuel mixture that makes the exhaust smell like rotten eggs from the hydrogen sulfide. Any of these symptoms along with the "Check Engine" light coming on is an even greater indicator of a catalytic converter problem.

My 1995 cadillac eldorado was losing power like the car was running out of gas and now smell exhaust

When you say smell like exhaust, does it smell like rotten eggs (sulfur)? If so, could be catalytic converter clogged up.

Why does my Navigator smell like rotten eggs and misses when running?

Because you fail to do routine Preventative Maintenance

You do not change spark plugs every 3 years
Front oxygen sensors at 100,000 miles
Remove & mail your injectors away-- for Ultra Sonic
Cleaning, at about 150,000 miles or 12 years

Now the exhaust converter is ruined, thus the rotten egg
smell (sulphur dioxide) also from failed cop ignition coils
& thus rich fuel trim & ruined converter

Lost of work needs to be done there, before you can replace
the converters

It will take $1,500 min to straighten out those issues

Check engine light, smells like eggs and no power

Your exhaust converters are over heating thus the
sulfur or egg smell

Your car is running to rich, too much gas being used

You have a MIL Lamp ON

Stop using it until resolved or engine & converter
damage may occur

Check for codes & go from there & get back if you like

My 1997 Saturn SL1 exhaust smells like rotten eggs, even after being driven 20 miles. It had sat for a while before today, when I bought it. Oxygen sensorwas replaced yesterday, and otherwise, it runs...

replace your catalytic convertor. you can go to a smog shop and have them perform a "cat efficiency test" and see what they tell you or simply go to a muffler shop have them install one.

Is my catylitic convertor stopped up?

Gotta love those Hondas, 300k and still going. I would say you are on track as faar as needing wires and plugs, also bare in mind you do have a few miles and there is going to be some wear and loss of compression which eaquals loss of power. Try adding some Restore to your engine oil after a few times using it there is a noticable difference. You can get it at any parts store and even WalMart It comes in a silver can with black letters.

As far as your cat, The best way to check it is by using a vacuum gauge, However if you don"t have one, yes the cat will glow a bright orange and also does give off a rotten egg smell.

Good Luck.

Car runs rough when it does run. then in about 5 miles it just dies no power at all? the battery is new so is alt. new plugs and wires ? it just dies and needs a jump. soon as its off it wont start again...

Have your mass air flow sensor cleaned/serviced., then your catylictic coverter.you can chk but takes two people. one at the tailpe and the other at the key. The moment the engine is turned of, the exhaust shout stop.Using a tissue see if the exhaust continues bet in a drifting manner. Note any odor of rotten egg or sulphur smells. Listen for ant wheezing coming from the tail pipe while the engine is running. This is rhe more probable cause. Good luck -Ned

P0300 is multiple misfires.
P0171 is lean burn on left bank 1 means drivers side
02 sensor is faulty. Your vehicle is over fuelling that is why your are getting P0300 code and the rotten egg smell. Good idea is to replace both 02 sensors.

Rotten egg smeel out of exhaust pipe

The “rotten egg smell” that you mentioned is usually caused by fuel mixture in the engine that is too rich. The catalytic converter may be faulty but before you replace it, the “too rich” fuel mixture needs to be corrected. When the mixture in the engine is to rich, the cat can become very hot, in return, producing this smell.

please rate and god bless.

Rotten egg smell after new plugs and wires seems to miss now

did he gap the plugs properly? sulfur smell comes from excess fuel being dumped into the exhaust (catalytic converter). Could be the coil, or improperly gapped plugs. If the wires were out of order, there would be a misfire.
