Question about 1996 Toyota RAV4

Open Question

I have a 1996 Rav4. I cannot open my passenger side door. The manual lock is stuck in a position that will not budge the door. It is spring, no cold weather to blame. We can't fighure how to open the door panel because the door won't open. .I have had frequent problems with the locks in winter. In very cold weather the driver & passenger doors will either not open or not shut. Any suggestions? I was quoted nearly $1000.to fix it at a Toyota dealer.

SOURCE: passenger door lock jammed

Your door latch assembly may be compromised. It could be rusted, the electric solenoid (if it has one) may be seized. Or the rods from the key are bent. Are you using th key in this door regularly? If not, the tumblers in the lock may be seized. Spray some WD-40 in the lock where the key goes, and jam the key in & out repeatedly, and retry. Remove the door panel & spray the interior of the latch, also. Hope this works for you; or, you are going to need new latches.

SOURCE: remote locks all door except the drivers side door,

Sounds like the power door lock actuator is bad in the drivers door. Its basically a solenoid. Its Toyota specific and probably not made aftermarket. It comes as an assembly with the latch mechanism. Its not a simple install for a novice but $350 sounds a bit steep. Call around and if you can find a better price.

Hi, My 2013 Toyota RAV4 front passenger door lock is caught. It sounds like it locks/unlocks- but we can't get it open-seems caught. How can we fix this? We don't use keys, always have fobs in our poc

SO DOES THE METAL KEY WORK OR NOT?

If the electonics magic fails , this is first., right?

just passenger door?

so locks can jam, and can be very hard to fix.

object stuck there, (closing door with junk in hands)

also playing with latch, by kids can trip it into an illegal mode.

first get it closed, 100% is it.

then use the key, if that don\'t work it needs service.

the key is for emerancies, say baby stuck in car, so..... use it.

Back door on the kia sorento 2011 passenger's side will not open, need help fast...??

Is it locked? The lock stuck in the locked position? Or is it something else. You might need to take off the door panel to disengage the lock. More info needed.

1996 dodge ram 1500. My tempature control knob is having a problem. It's stuck on the cold side I can turn it to the heat side but it spins right back to the cold side. Is there a spring or cable that has...

the control that opens the valve to let hot coolant to run through the heater core is stuck-the cables that move it are springing back and moving the knob back-find the valve under the hood close to the firewall on the passenger side-spray it with wd-40 and work it back and forth-or you may just want to replace it-cheers Denny

1997 Toyota Rav4 driver side interior door handle broken

Parts can be had from a junk yard...remove door panel and push up on the connecting rod to open...generally, a little piece of plastic slips off or breaks inside the door. It is attached to a certain part of the rod. Should be white or clear plastic...look for the broken bits when door panel is removed so you know what you need....cheers

My electronic passenger side slider is jammed open. It will budge only about an inch or two. I've tried putting on manual, but it still won't budge.

this happened to me too. I had to remove the inside trim/handle cover to access all the levers that open the door. Toward the top of the collection of levers is one that releases the door from the "locked" position. I'm not sure what the permanent fix is for the problem...I still manually release the lever each time I need to open the door.

The driver side door lock wont go all the way up.

The outside door handle spring is broke ,or the latch spring is broke. The only way to tell is remove the door panel and inspect the rod from the handle to latch. Look for broken spring on handle. I have installed an external spring from the handle rod to latch to keep the rod in the full up position.

1997 Toyota Rav4 doors are locked

over time the grease in the locks etc can become frozen and stop movement when its warmed up a bit it will move better, using the key on the doors every now and then helps move this greas about as the central locking wont move these parts only the switches, replacing the grease after a degreasing locking mechanisms inside the door on the rear of the lock should help choose a grease that can handle low temperatures.

Door locks

Pls explain if you have electric door locks or not. A seized solenoid (if you do) will preevnt the latch from working...Regardless of whether you do or not, anything wrong with the alternator will give not you door lock issues. You problem is purely mechanical. The electronic function (option) just assists the mechanical (non-powered) door locks. The doors should work; (the lock/unlock/open/close) even with the battery disconnected, using the manual controls.
