Question about 1998 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Over heating. four machanics checked ( dealer said nothing wrong, not over heating for them ) they changed temp. sensors they say. They check hoses and said all good. the radiator fine too. radiator does not use up water. over $400.00 with dealer. The last one found fans not working he said. put new kit in $400.00. Summer again and still over heating? Over heats intermittently. If What else can be wrong? They said this has caused transmission to go out twice in last two years. New engin put in almost two years ago too and did not help.

You have two fans, one should cycle if the engine gets up to temp. say 190degs. The other should come on if you turn on the A/C. So start the engine check the fans, then turn on the A/C recheck the fans. One should be running with the A/C on. If not, this is the cause of your overheating problem. Check all your fuses, go to a local parts store and have a clerk check the fan relays.

My Chrysler 300 overheats. Replaced thermostat, radiator hose and flushed the system. Still gets hot. What can I do?

What is model year? How hot does it get in degrees F? Maybe air in the system? Does the radiator fan work? Are there any over-heating symptoms besides the temp gage?

You may need to check combustion gases in the coolant?

sounds like a water pump or heater matrix problem change the coolant and have the system flushed through and fill making sure you bleed the air from system if it was the matrix blocked the flushing should have cleared it so check the water pump if still having probs

From your description, it does not sound like it is actually running hot.
Might be a faulty gauge or computer unit.
I hate to say it, but sometimes worth taking to the dealer to check annoying ones like this.

Hondas are very tough cars and will run hot right up until a radiator hose ruptures. You need to make sure that there is not a problem.
When your Honda says it is hot, make sure the radiator fan is running. If not, it can be a bad fan or fan relay.
Next, turn on the heat full blast and make sure that you have allot of heat coming into the car. If not, even though your overflow tank has fluid in it, your radiator may be dry. This can happen if your radiator cap is bad. Check the fluid level in the radiator itself, but don't pull the cap until your car has cooled down at least an hour to reduce the risk of getting burned by steam.
If it stops reading HOT when you have full heat on it could be either the thermostat or a plugged radiator. Change the thermostat first since it is the cheapest fix.
