Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

I am trying to replace the s-belt on a 1999 ford windstar. I am using a 15mm bolt to release the belt. The screw to do so is very tight I am afraid if I apply more strength to loosen it that it might break any suggestions?

How to replace alternator

First you need to disconnect the neg. battery terminal. Then remove drive belt by releasing tension on tension pully to remove belt. Next remove mounting bolts. Then gently lift alt. out of mounting being careful not to damage wires on back. Gently unplug wires on back and loosen and remove nut on main cable. Assembly is reverse of removal. Tools you will need: flat head screw driver, slip joint pliers, 10mm, 13mm, & 15mm sockets, 15mm wrench and either a larger wrench or pipe for leverage. If you get stuck don't panic you can go to youtube for a how to video. Good luck.

How to adjust TENSIONER pulley on 2002 ford windstar

2002 Windstar has a 3.8 litre engine, on this engine there is an automatic belt tensioner. The tensioner pulley is a the small one under the power steering pulley, yes, it's that small one way back there that is hard to get at. To remove the belt you would use a 15mm wrench on the belt tensioner pulley nut and rotate counterclockwise, when released it automatically tensions the belt, if you are hearing a squeal, look at the belt carefully and try to determine if it is running straight or one of the pulleys might be a little out of line causing the belt to lean away from its straight run. The problem here is usually the belt tensioner assembly is worn and needs replaced ( the whole assembly ) along with a new belt.

Using a 15mm wrench attached to the drive belt tensioner pulley, rotate the tensioner clockwise to release the tension. Remove the drive belt from the pulley. When installing the new drive belt, ensure that the drive belt is routed correctly and note the position of the indicator mark on the tensioner.

I need to know how to change belt on a 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 Liter

You have a (spring loaded) tensioner that will have a pulley on it. There is probably an idler pulley too. there will be a 15mm head on the bolt...get a 15mm (6 point) wrench on it and pull that pulley hard like you are tightening it. if it starts to move you will release the tension from the belt, and just pull it over the pulley closest to your other hand. pay attention to your belt routing....install new belt....pull tensioner pulley same as before, and put your belt around all pulleys....release tensioner and you are good to go. these pulleys can get a little tight over the years so give it some elbow grease.

Looking to replace my alternator on a 1999 ford taurus but dont know how to loosen the belt

To loosen the belt use a 15mm socket on the tensioner pulley. Turn clockwise if you have a OHV engine or counterclockwise if your engine is OHC. Turning this bolt will release pressure on the belt allowing you to remove it from the other pulleys. To identify the tensioner pulley it is just above and to the right of your crankshaft.
Hope this was helpful.

Unplug the alternator remove ground to motor.
Remove serpentine belt.
remove 2 bolts which hold alternator.
replace reverse of removal.
4 out of 10 difficulty.
Only special tool you will need is a wrench long enough to pull back the tensioner.
See the radiator support for location of tensioner and serpentine routing.
While its off, i would suggest replacing the belt too.

Serpentine Belt on a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2

If you have a book picture your are screwed. You do have a tensioner but it is between air con and powersteering pullys. In front from under you can put 15mm wrenchopend with a nother for leverage pull center bolt down to release tension. simple.
