Hi, oil on the spark plug will mean one of two problems the most likely cause is going to be valve stem oil seals, if these have gone then this means your going to need to take your cylinder head off to replace these parts, it means you need to have the head re-built, now the second problem could be the oil pick up ring on the pistons and if this is the case then this means an engine rebuild.

both of these will be expensive jobs and would require a lot of time to complete the job

the only way oil can get into the cylinder boar is by either bad valve seals or damaged piston rings their is nothing else that could cause this problem.

are you sure its oil and not just carbon built up on the plugs, if you are unsure then take the plugs out and just take them with you to your nearest garage and let them have a look, they wont charge for this and they should confirm what i have said if it is oil.

if its not oil then the chances are your car just needs a good service and tune up so if its not oil then this would be simple to solve as it will only require a service and tune up

Excessive oil usage in Toyota Landcruiser 200 series

Pull the spark plugs to see which cylinder is burning the oil. The spark plug will be black or even wet with oil. There are three main reasons an engine will burn oil. 1) worn piston rings, 2) leaking valve stem seals and 3) a bad PCV valve.

My car smells like its burning oil, and there is oil in my spark plug wells. Guy at auto parts store says I need to replace oil gaskets that go around spark plugs. Is this a valid diagnosis and if so is it...

As far as I know spark plugs only have a metal type washer to seal, and there is no other oil seal needed. I have know oil to leak from rocker cover and fill spark plug wells, but tis also often covers engine. Burning oil smell couldbe from oil going onto the outside of hot engine. Check oil loss via dip stick. Clean all oil from outside engine to find out sites of leaks. Hope this helps.

Engine burning oil no oil leak little smoke

oil leaks are hard to identify by the blue smoke that you used to see. most of this smoke is burned up by the catalytic converter. at least until all of that oil plugs the converter up. you can tell if your burning oil by removing the spark plugs, and checking their appearance against diagnostic charts redily available on the internet. oil burning will leave a distinctive residue.

Change all your Spark Plugs and check the condition of your coil wires or packs and clean them if they are soaked with oil.

Car idles low then dies.

For you to figure out if the spark plug fires, you need to pull it out one by one while running. Make sure that you are wearing protective gloves for this one. Normally for spark plug issues the idle will be sort of erratic and fells as if the revs is slow to go up when teh gas is stepped on. For the oil, check for leaks around the engine and smoke at the exhaust. Oil may enter the combustion chamber and burn causing a dark or bluish smoke. Also check the coolant in your radiator if oil gets in. For these problems you need to replace some oil seals and some oil ring. The low idle can be caused by faulty wiring since you have an EFI engine. Check the connections if they are loose. Also check the fast idle control valve if you can adjust the idle or it may need cleaning

New spark plugs gone out

If the odor is not heavy gasoline, then they appear to be oil fouled. The cheap fix is to buy at any auto parts store oil burning plugs or sleeves, these will keep the spark plugs slightly further out of the cylinder, out of the oils way, and should provide a reasonable resolution.

Check the PCV valve and hose, if they clog they will cause oil to enter engien cylinders. keep me posted
