Question about 2000 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Stratus v-6 that will not start. It's turns over but doesn't fire. Fuel pump is okay. Could this be a sensor or distributor issue? Dealer's shop said they didn't see any codes while they had it and wanted to replace the PCM and elec. distributor for $2400 but said they could guarantee that would fix it. I decided to tow it home and replace the PCM myself, this didn't fix it. Where should I check next?

Check for fire from the coil to the spark plugs with an inline spark tester. If no fire, then disconnect the plug to coil and with volt tester check for power to coil. If you have power to coil then replace coil on engine. Hope this will help you.

I have a 97 dodge stratus. It won't start. Tried

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out

clean all the battery terminals, ( you don't say if it turns over and just doesn't fire up ) so check the cables first ,, you could have a number of things happening if it turns over and just doesn't fire, your fuel pump could be losing pressure during the night from bleed off, if thats the case replace it, change the filter, ( fuel) open the distributor cap and check the rotor and spark plug pins inside the cap, remove any build up on it,, a harder fix , remove the air system to the throttle body , and spray carb cleaner into those ports,, there is a sensor located in there, Its just a little bump , but use extreme care when cleaning that , wipe it off with a soft clean rag ,, that should correct your starting problems, how do I know this? I just did it to my 95 camry that had the same issues, I did the throttle body clean , and replaced my fuel pump and filter, starts like it was new, and it has 297k plus on it !!

Installed new fuel pump on 2006 dodge stratus 2.4-car still will not start-wants to start-?

Sometime new isnt all that is new but lets say its good. Okay how the fuel filter probable good. so let move on can you put some fuel in the throttle body and give it a start and does it start up longer than stall. If it does you may have the fuel problem still. Now remember there is a linear idle air control motor key on step on the gas pedal does it react. yes okay next step turn key on does the fuel pump operate momentarily crank it it should operate for 2 seconds if it doesnt then you will need to reapir the crank sensor before you do that the ASD relay should energize it that doesnt youll need to find the short. but for now check for spark if no spark correct the crank sensor

2000 Dodge Stratus wont fire

You need to check for spark. Usualy when you have no spark at all it, will be the ignition module. It is what the coils are plugged into. It should look like a flat silver plate.

2000 dodge stratus turns but wont start, checked timing belt, fuel pump distributer and fuses. Any other suggestions?

You need to check to see if it's a fuel problem or an electrical problem. Is there adequate spark at the plugs? If so, check for fuel problems. Clogged filter, bad fuel pump, bad gas.. Get car scanned for codes at most parts stores for free. Could be a CPS crank position sensor or cam position sensor. If crank sensor is bad, will not start. Get codes checked first.

1996 Dodge Stratus stalls when starting

I had this problem with my 99 Durango and went to AutoBeef.com to discover this was a major problem with 98 & 99 Durangos. The fix was easy -- PCM "brain" was exchanged with a refurbished PCM "brain" from an online PCM company in Florida. You can google as I can't remember name of company. I called them and they said - Yep this is the fix -- the guys told me 3 screws all I had gone to several mechanics and dealers -- none could figure it out. I was so grateful that someone gave me the clue I needed.
