Question about 2001 Saturn S-Series

1 Answer

Car keeps stalling, at first when you came to a stop, but now even when were driving. I think it might be the fuel filter, and possibly it's in need of a tune-up. I don't have any idea where the fuel filter is located on the vehicle. And i don't own a repair manual.

I had a similar problem with an earlier S Saturn. Turned out to be the crank sensor which is inserted into the block from the rear of the engine, just above the starter.

expose the carburetor throat and start the engine keeping it running with your hand on the throttle. try and control the idle at its lowest possible rpm and look inside the throat. if it is showing ANY dripping fuel or even wet flaps then it is stalling because of too much fuel and the carb. will have to be cleaned or serviced.

When the fuel pump was checked did they check the gauze input filter that is part of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank ?
It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the this filter and that is causing fuel starvation making the engine cut out.

Car randomly stalls when i stop or even while i drive

It sounds like your fuel filter is clogged or your fuel pump is going bad. When this happens see if you can hear if your fuel pump is running. Turn the key forward to the run position and listen near the gas tank. you should hear a vibrating sound. If you don't hear it at all the pump of pump relay is bad. If you hear it continually your fuel filter, pressure regulater, or fuel line have problems.

My probe is stalling at traffic lights. the rpms wont stay high enough to keep the engine running.

Most modern cars with fuel injection, have to maintain a certain range of fuel pressure. There is a schrader valve in the fuel line. At this point fuel pressure can be checked. Pressure is always present. This can be dangerous, even at low pressure. Hope this helps lbreen
