Took distributer out and changed dist rotor and dist cap. Put ne spark plugs and wires. Now wont start and backfires while trying to start.

You have the Engine Out Of Time you will have to bring number 1 cylinder to Top dead center do this by turning the Crank bolt Clockwise Have the valve cover off so you can watch the Intake and Exhaust Valve`s open and close as number one piston comes up on a firing stroke make sure you have the number one cylinder coming up on a firing stroke. Watch Intake valve open and close as you turn the Crank.when pisten gets dead top of this STROKE DROP THE DISTRIBUTER; Start the Firing Order right where the Rotery Button is inside the Distributer cap

I mixed the distributor cables up,so i need the order to correctly connect

If the wires are still in the distributer, AND, if you have a stock intake manifold, the firing order is on the manifold. If it's a V-8, the number 1, 3, 5, & 7 plugs are on the drivers side of the engine. The number 2, 4, 6, & 8 plugs are on the passenger side. The number 1 plug wire can be located by looking at the distributer from the front of the engine and visually looking between the distributer and the number 1 plug. Visualize the distributer as a clock. The number one position should be located between 4 and 5 o'clock and should have the longest wire of those on that side of the distributer.

If the wires have been pulled from the distributer, then, then, remove the rotor cap, turn the engine over slowly until the rotor is pointing to the number 1 plug. Using the firing order on the intake manifold, starting with number 1, replace the wires going clockwise around the distributer.

I Mixed up the Firing Order can I please a diagram to Go By??

For some reason I can't seem to paste a picture but maybe this will help you. Your firing order is 1 6 5 4 3 2 going in a clockwise rotation. Your number 1 3 & 5 cylinders are the front was closest to the front of the car and the rear cylinders are number 2 4 & 6. Numbers 1 & 2 will be closest to the passenger side of the vehicle (the front of the engine). The number 1 spot on your distributer cap if you are looking at it from the front of the vehicle is at about the 1 o clock position. I can send you a diagram picture of it is need be. Just email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your make model and year and I will be happy to send it to you. I hope this helped and good luck.

Cannot figure out the firing order for my 1991 isuzu rodeo

Facing towards front of engine-number 1 is on passenger side front cyl of engine. Number 2 is front cyl on driver's side-number 3 middle cyl on passenger side-4 on middle cyl driver's side-5 on back cyl passenger side and 6 on back cyl driver's side. The distributer rotates COUNTER CLOCKWISE-number 1 cyl's sparkplug wire attaches to distributer cap connection closest to number 5 cyl.-to your right side of this plug wire on cap would go cyl number 2-then 3-then 4-then 5 and then 6. The firing order is:1,2,3,4,5,6

How do you connect spark plugs to distributer caps

You first need to know the cylinder order (no. 1 is at the front of the block where the pulleys and belts are), then the firing order, where no. 1 is on the distributor cap and finally which direction the rotor inside spins (clockwise [CW] or counterclockwise [CCW]). After finding this info in your repair manual you can install the appropriate wires into their proper spots on the cap.

I need the possition of #1 on the distributor cap

Remove cap. Remove number one spark plug. Turn key off...have friend manualy turn engine over until you feel air blow out of number one spark plug hole. when you feel this look at rotor in distributer...it will be pointing close to number one. Set your wires on cap to coincide with that. Hope this helps:)
