The 1997 Suburban has a 5.3L Vortec engine unless you have the 2500 model which is 5.8L. Since you sound like you have an everyday driver it takes 5.75 quarts... If you are chaging the oil yourself and doing filter... Put in 5.5 quarts and crank engine, let it run for 5 min and then check oil via dipstick. Top off the oil based on dipstick reading...You shoudl be 3/4 of the way up the zone between min and max for perfect level. A certain amount of oil always stays in the oil pan and the filter so just filling it with a certain number of quarts on older model cars doesnt work..since the engine has wear and oil needs. Be sure and dont exceed the MAX mark on your dipstick this creates oil OVER pressure and can cause seals to blow out and oil leaks on older vehicles with high mileage. If you want you can use the high mileage oil...it has additives to help seals swell and not leak. But if you arent having oil leaks now and car is running fine no need to change type.

How many quarts of oil I need to change a oil on

Should be 5 qts plus the filter. Six quarts should be enough with some left over.

I have a1997 suburban 5.7 eng. hesitates and backfires on rapid acceleration.

check that your map sensor has direct (unregulated) vacuum. I don't believe that the purge solenoid can create that kind of problem.

Engine oil low light message comes on every 3000 miles and is always quart or more low 2007 chevy suburban 1500

Hard acceleration will burn more oil, also the 5.3l V8s are well known burning oil. so just check the oil every time you fiil up with fuel. Seriously, your already waiting for the tank to fill so grab a towel and check the oil level- if its low put a bit in. Trust me, you dont want to have to replace that engine just because you didnt want to pop the hood!

I got a warning in my 2006 Chevy Suburban that there was no oil pressure and to immediately turn off the engine. I got it home and put in 2Q of oil and now the oil gauge shows pressure but it's between 40...

Too much oil can increase the pressure that will eventually blow the gaskets from retainer rings. I am not sure what the pressure should be in your auto, i recommend you take it to a qualified mechanic...

1992 chevy suburban oil

do you know how to check the oil? With the engine off, open the hood locate the dipstick, usually yellow in color and often says oil on it, pull it out, wipe it off, put it back in, pull it out adn look at the end, it will have an area that is checkered, if the oil level is between these marks, it is in a good operating range, if it is overfull you should have some drained out, if it is not full add 1 qt at a time until it is in the checkered area. if the engine is knocking, you should not run it have it towed to a qualified service station. 5 w 30 is fine and 5.5 top 6 qts should be plenty. hope this helps.
