More than likely, you have on open circuit in the clutch coil causing the compressor not to engage and pull any refrigerant in. Your probably not that low on freon unless there is a leak. Take and disconnect the wire going to the compressor and fish it up to the top towards the plastic air intake tube. Using a test light, turn the car on with the a/c switched on and check for power on that wire. If it's good than you need a new coil, clutch, and hub. Do not attempt to remove and do yourself if you don't know about freon recovery and recharging.

Could be a problem with the heater controls ,or you do not have the right machine to recharge the vehicle properly with R134 ,the vehicle needs to have the system reclaimed then oil recovery and then a vacumn before the oil is added and the gas by weight. For this you need a special machine

Kia sedona compressor clutch does not turn?

check for fuse and relay problems in the ac circuit. disconnect the wire near the ac clutch and use a test light to see if there is power there. Remember that there are 3 units that will stop the clutch from working. Low pressure switch, high pressure switch and the thermostat. Best take it to an accredited ac specialist shop for a test of the system as you may have a leak and all the gas is gone.

Have the system checked for a low charge of refrigerant due to a leak. The compressor will not run when the system is low on charge.

Is the compressor running when the ac is switched on ? Have you checked the freon charge with a gauge ?

A local garage mechanic says the clutch has stopped working on ac that is why it blows hot air instead of cool says it will cost $900. to fix cause I have to buy the whole ac unit does this sound correct?...

have you tried charging the ac system? most ac compressors have a pressure switch that will not allow the relay to engage the clutch if the coolant pressure is low. $15 can of r134a and maybe a $20 Haynes manual is well worth the price difference, eh?

AC blowing warm

Is it that hot in Sedona. I live in Tucson and thats hot. Have your freon recharged. You can buy the refrigerant at Checker or AutoZone. How do you like our Governor. She really made the national news.

My kia sedona van only heats up for a minute or

Check the metal part of the heater core lines at the firewall if you can get to them and see if one side is noticeable colder than the other. At least one of them should be hot or you have a bad thermostat. If both are hot than your hot/cold actuator inside is having a problem

Air conditioner started blowing hot air

Either AC compressor or AC clutch failure or both highly likely as Kia Sedona has notable history of this

Sure, one might trace the wire that connects to the compressor, and while its challenging to reach without removal of both fans, it does follow upward into the engine wiring harness. At that point its much more convenient to push a needle into the wire and connect a meter to it to see if it is energized when AC selector on, cabin fan on and cabin thermostat set to coldest setting.

If no voltage then check fuses and try swapping idential relays in the engine compartment box to be sure. If voltage present, then assume the worst.

More important is why the failure. I'm convinced a design error by Kia relative to the suction or low pressure hose is the root cause of such frequent AC compressor or AC clutch failures. You can buy a new Kia OEM suction hose, position it for to install and observe immediate kinking and or collapse. Kia has likely long been aware of this problem but never conducted a recall. You can solve it permanently, toss your existing suction hose and buy this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181880844799

If you buy a "Tough One" brand replacement compressor and filter/dryer together from Advance Auto Parts it has a lifetime replacement warranty. No other compressor is sold with a lifetime warant for a Kia Sedona, not even from Kia itself.
