SOURCE: low-pressure port I need identification

Basic AC system consists of Compressor pump (on engine), Condenser (front grill with radiator) and Evaporator (Firewall). Pump has two ports output (high pressure) and return (low pressure). Follow lines from pump. High side is usually between pump and condenser. Follow lines and find second port this will be low side (refill) port. Paint or replace port caps (red high, blue low). Also, refrigerant in system determines port size (R12 or R34).

SOURCE: Looking for low pressure port for servicing Freon

The ports on my 2005 silverado are on the same line, which is very confusing but, in between the two ports is the metering device (orifice) which changes the high pressure gas into a low pressure gas.The two ports are of a different size, with the low pressure being the smaller of the two. You can put your hand on the line, on each side of the metering device connection and the high side will be hot and the low side will be cold

The low-pressure service gauge port valve is located on the suction accumulator behind the RH corner of the front bumper cover, and can be accessed by detaching the front portion of the RH fender splash shield.

I want to recharge the ac but cant find the input fitting?

Go to autozone and ask for a can of: R134-A. Make sure to get a can with hoses and a gauge. Don't let the pressure build up to much. make sure you hook it into the right connection. Its the metal hoses right by the radiator. -------------- Its usally a pretty easy job, especially if you get one of the kits with the gauge in it. They can be found at autozone, etc. The connectors are pretty smartly done. This thing will only connect to a low pressure port on your car. You are looking for a blue or gray cap on one of the A/C lines with an "L" on it. ------------------ Locate the Low Pressure Side service port. It is usually on the driver's side of beside the engine block. Remove the black cap marked L. Look at the connector type to determine if your car uses R134 refrigerant. The R134 compatible systems have a quick connect valve on the Low Pressure Side. ----------------- Hope this helps.Thanks.

How do you connect a/c charger to make your central air cooler

The 1998 Dodge Caravan ac should be charged at the low pressure service port. This port is located on the suction line near the compressor. The suction line can be identified by it's size, it being the larger of the two line connected to the compressor. You must purchase a recharge kit at your local part store, which should include charging hose with pressure gauge and a can of R134a freon. Gloves and eye protection should be worn during servicing.(freon can freeze your eyes and cause frost bite to your hands). Connect freon to charging hose, connect charging hose to low pressure service port, open valves and start engine, turn on ac. If compressor won't start it may be required to disconnect the low pressure switch and jump out the connector.

Need air cindition recharge, don't have cash to take it someplace, can you help with instructions to do this

YOU NEED A R-134 GAUGE SET TO CHECK LOW PRESSURE SIDE AND HIGH PRESSURE SIDE.YOU ALSO CAN BUY A LITTLE CHEAPER GAUGE TO CHECK YOUR AC LOW BLUE SIDE AND HIGH RED SIDE AT ANY AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS.WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU GET YOUR GAUGE SET HOOK GAUGE TO LOW PRESSURE SIDE BLUE CAP PORT AND GAUGE TO HIGH SIDE PRESSURE RED CAP PORT.YOU CRANK CAR UP GET IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.THEN TURN AC ON HIGH COOL LET RUN 3 TO 4 MINUTES.CHECK LOW SIDE GAUGE READING SHOULD BE 28 - 32 PSI. HIGH PRESSURE SIDE GAUGE SHOULD 199 - 228 PSI. THATS NORMAL CHARGE. SEE YOU CANT JUST RECHARGE AC SYSTEM UNTIL YOU CHECK IT FIRST YOU WILL DAMAGE SYSTEM .NOW YOU CAN GO TO AUTO ZONE PARTS BUY A CHARGE CAN WITH GAUGE AND HOSE.ATTACH TO IT.YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE CAN.WARNING MAKE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING WHEN YOU TURN ON AC .BECAUSE IF COMPRESSOR NOT RUNNING CHECK FUSE AND AC COMPRESSOR RELAY.IF BOTH OKAY.YOU COULD HAVE OPEN CLUTCH COIL A FAULTY LOW PRESSURE SWITCH WILL CAUSE AC NOT TO WORK. IF LOW PRESSURE GAUGE BLUE SIDE PRESSURE IS 28 OR 30 YOU DONT NEED A CHARGE.PROBLEM SOME WHERE ELSE.BE SURE TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN WORKING ON AC SYSTEM.

Low pressure hose cooling system

on my 2000 expedition it is located on top of the compressor. The compressor is barrel shapped and silver and has a belt attached to it. There are 2 ports on the air compressor, one low and one high. When charging your air conditioner the gauge will only attach to the low pressure.

Need to know if my 1993 ford club wagon is r-12 or r-134 is there any way to tell from fill ports? the r-134 CANISTERS FIT ON THE LOWSIDE, ARE THE R-12's a different size?

If it is a quick connect fitting, it is R-134a
The low(charge) side fitting is: 13mm
The high side fitting is: 16mm

If it is a threaded fitting with threads on the outside, then it is the older R-12 refrigerant and can only be serviced by a licensed air conditioning service.

The low(charge) side is 7/16" threads
The high side is 3/8" threads

When servicing your air conditioner it is best if you have gauges, but it can be done without, just be careful.

Assuming the air works, but just not putting out that much cool air, then 1 or 2 cans of refrigerant won't hurt.

If there is no pressure/refrigerant in the system at all then it is usually a sign of a leak and should be taken to a pro because you may need to replace the receiver/dryer and have the leak fixed. The system needs to be evacuated for maximum efficiency if there was a leak or if hte system has been opened.

Adding too much refrigerant can be catastrophic as the high side pressures can reach 200-300psi on a hot day. So if you happen to have a low side gauge, and it reads somewhere between 35-45 with the Ac operating, you are golden.(tire gauge won't work)

Don't be surprised if the compressor doesn't kick on right away. Some vehicles are equipped with a pressure switch to keep from damaging the compressor if it runs low. Usually after adding one can, it is enough to engage the compressor.

Hope this helps.

Low side service port

Hi, All air-con systems have stardard size air-con pipe connections.1 small 1large so you can`t connect to the wrong side, the connector usually has a ring you have to pull back to then push onto the pipe connection that when connected keeps the connection tight ,to disconnect it is the reverse of fitting BE carefully and do not connect or disconnect with engine running wear goggles and gloves and do not breath any escaped gas,if your not confident give it to an expert !!.
