I had the same thing happen. You need to take your fuel pump out. There is a accsess panel under the back seat. Check the rubber hose from fuel pump and the top. You will hear the fuel pump turn on but it wont pump it through the fuel line.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay to see if it is sending power to the pump ? The computer grounds the relay when the computer "sees" oil pressure or engine RPM.

1998 kia sportage fuel pump has been replaced by owner, but still will not start. i ckeck the fuse it is not getting power at the fuse near the drivers side panel. also i think some sort of rodent chewed...

If there is fuel in the gas tank, I would remove the bolts holding the upper section of the timing belt cover and pry it back carefully to look for a stretched, broken or damaged belt. If it looks good and snug on the pulleys, then I would replace the fuel pump relay and the main relay and check the fuel pump connectors are properly connected and for a good ground wire and make sure the screw is tightened securely to a good, clean surface that is properly grounding the fuel pump and replace the fuel filter if it was not done with the pump

My car wont stay started when im trying to crank the engine?

If it turns over and almost seems to start I would inspect the timing belt by removing the top cover. It may need to be replaced due to damage or from becoming stretched and/or loose. Next I would check the fuel pump/fuel pump relay. If it will run for a few seconds then sputter and die, try replacing the fuel filter.

2000 kia sportage will not start have replaced fuel pump

unplug ecm connector engine control module has faulty connectors due to pins I recommend to unplug and plug connector and try to start, module is located under passenger front seat frontal foot area you need to remove a cover before you do the actual disconnection touch the door striker to rid your
self of static electricity. also check relays for fuel pump and ecm power on right side of engine compartment (as you would sit on
driver seat) (buy kia relays) and for danerl p possible faulty ignition
coils and spark plugs due to arking, replaced spark plugs wires too, check valve cover for leaking oil into spark plugs possible codes po300 -po304 set .
