Since this vehicle has a thermal clutch fan I'd start there

are ALL the hoses getting hot?

  • upper rad hose
  • lower rad hose
  • heater hoses
does the overheating reduce when you turn on the heat at full speed

  • Anonymous Jun 06, 2010

if both the upper and lower hoses are HOT then you are dealing with a flow issue

    could be the water pump

        a restriction in the system

        thermostat stuck closed
    again I must ask...

        are all the hoses hot?

will the temperature DROP if you turn on the heat at HIGH!!!?
However, if you just want to start replacing stuff, here is the list from easy/hard

        thermostat

        radiator

        water pump
    Cheers

sounds like you are destined to replace the water pump, so as Nike says........."Just do it"

If this doesn't FixYa then re-post and we will talk about the other possible issues

A cooling system consists of a water pump, cooling fan, thermostat, radiator hose, hose clamps, radiator, radiator cap and coolant. Engine coolant is used to transfer heat from the engine to the radiator by the cooling system. The radiator removes heat from the coolant by forcing air through the radiator cooling fins. Without coolant your engine will overheat and if left unattended severe engine damage will occur. Coolant leaks are a common problem to an overheating engine. So once again, make SURE that you are not leaking coolant. If you have to, monitor it with a towel or cloth of some sort. My knowledge here isn't too well, but if you are losing pressure, that could be a problem as well. So maybe put a pressure gage on it, and monitor how much pressure you are gaing or losing. So triple check that you are not leaking coolant. Also keep in mind that the leak could be internal. Causing even more problems that should be fixed ASAP

First i would start with the little things. First check to make sure the heat sensor isn't bad. Your car could be just telling you that it is over heating, but it could be a miscommunication betweent the computer and the sensor. Also check you antifreeze/coolant level, and make sure it is good. It may need to be flushed. Other than that, witht the info you provided, you car should be in good working condition.

2006 crown Vic police interceptor former police

The police package interceptors had a common problem with the fans seizing up. There was a TSB ford released to correct the issue which called for the replacement of the electric fan assembly with an updated fan assembly.

How do I find out weather my 1997 mercury G.M. is the one with the police package

Info is a little fuzzy, but here are some solid clues.
The 6th and 7th digits of the VIN should be 71 or 72 if it is a police or taxi model.
It should have a certified 140 mph speedometer and full set of gauges like the Crown Vic.
Very few Grand Marquis models were built with the 71 or 72 package because Grand Marquis was not sold to fleets like Crown Vics were.
I would be surprised if you found a hand full of any year after 1995 in the USA still on the road. The 2003-2004 Marauder would be the exception but they are rare too.

What makes a 1999 ford crown vic. Runs hot when idle when it is hot.

You might check your water pump or radiator hoses to ensure they are not cracked or leaking. Thermostat may be faulty also.

I have an ex police crown vic 1997 it appears to be overheating if i leave the ac running for about 20 mins. i changed the fan clutch/ radiator, where should thedial actually be?

it's funny to be reading about a similar situation i'm having. i also have a '97 crown vic, bought at a municipal auction.
of course, running the a/c should put more load on the engine and produce more heat. but not enough to be concerned about. if you car seems to be overheating, the thermostat could be to blame.
while diagnosing a different matter, i noticed the coolant temperature at one point reached 217 F. i'm going to replace the thermostat as it may only be opening partialy. my temp gage is normally just above the half way point between the high and low marks. it hasn't gone any further towards the high temp mark to be alarming.
where is the needle pointing on your gage? have you replaced the thermostat?

2000 crown vic motor overheating and freezing up after 1/2 hour. New oil, fan, thermostat. water level ok. A/C was on.

Is the engine itself hot? or the car? If the engine is warm, check the engine coolant, and see if their are any holes or leaks..
