Question about 2005 Ford Explorer
I have a 2005 6 cylinder explorer. After running for a few hours I lose power going up hills. Around town it runs fine. Changed the plugs and the center one on the driver side was fowled and did not help so changed the wires which did not work either. Did a compression check and the garage said the driver side was about 20% lower than the passenger side and the center plug was bad again. Only have 115K miles and have changed the oil on a regular basis which would think is too early for a ring problem. Any ideas to look for before I look into a rebuild? How do you tell if it us a ring or valve issue? the garage said they cant tell.
A compression leak down test would tell you where the compression leak is coming from, and you should call around to find a repair shop that knows what a compression leak down test is.
A burnt or bent intake or exhaust valve, warped cylinder head or faulty head gasket, or a damaged piston or piston compression ring could cause a compression leak, and a leaking intake manifold gasket that allows oil to enter the intake through the lifter valley could foul out a spark plug, and also it could be a damaged piston or broken piston rings that is fouling out the spark plug.

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire
issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the
compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression
then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.
Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know
which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.
