When it goes up and down it makes a knocking noise

I will have to guess at this question since you don't give much information. Some cars have Mcpherson Struts at front and back of car, some have Struts at front and shock absorbers at rear. Struts and shocks would have to be checked for ware as well as lower control arm bushings. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Replace struts

Unless you are familiar with mcpherson struts, it would be wise to have a shop replace them for you. You would have to bring the vehicle to a shop after replacing the struts anyway because the wheel alignment would have to be checked. If you don't check it, you will kick yourself when your front tires wear faster, your steering wheel isn't straight, or the car pulls to one side. Besides those reasons, if you remove the center shaft nut without the proper spring compressing tools mounted, the spring will shoot out of control, possibly causing major damage and physical injury.

Problem for Volkswagen 1998 jetta does the jetta

it uses a simplified strut, but a strut is a shock, it just has a spring on the shock instead of being counted elsewhere, it is called a coil over shock

age does not matter, if ride is bumpy and things are making noise, get it checked out at shop. if you are happy with the comfort of the ride, all is good.

How to install front struts 1996 beretta

I believe these are equipped with McPherson struts and a spring compressor is required to replace the struts. It is possible to DIY but the spring compressor is mandatory to prevent the compressed spring surrounding the strut from wreaking havoc once released.

How do you install the shocks on a 1994 Chevy Lumina?

This model doesn't have shocks. It damps bouncing with McPherson struts. The front struts can have a new cartridge installed while in place, but it's an involved process. The rear struts have to be removed to replace the struts -- a more involved process that requires some special tools. The struts last a lot longer than shock absorbers, but are not nearly as easy to change when the time comes.

Toyota carina e mcpherson strut problems

It should be the same, the only difference is the front suspension will have heavier coil springs to cope withe the diesel engine.
Rear will be identical as long as its off the same year car.

Noisy front end after repairs

Sounds like the McPherson strut rubbing on the bodywork. Take it back for repair. If the strut was worn, it would have been clunky before hand.
