Actuator on drivers door not locking or unlocking door.can hear the actuator work but not driving latch.

Closely examine the panel and remove it. Then using a razor blade, pull back on the plastic while cutting that black sticky ****. Using a good flahlight if needed take a look and see what's not moving. Could be a broken cable or rod popped out of place. Good luck.

2005 Buick Rendezvous you can hear the relay clicking but the door locks will not open and close


Check for broke wires inside the boot from body to driver door , this is a common problem . If you don't find broke wire's , pull the door panel to get at driver door switch . Check for voltage an ground circuit .

Door Lock Operation

Driver Door Unlock Operation
When the BCM detects a transition of either of the door lock switches to the UNLOCK position, it switches the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuit to voltage. Since the door lock actuator lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the LF door lock actuator motor transitions to the Unlock position.
The driver door lock actuator unlock control circuit is a dedicated control circuit used only for the driver door lock actuator motor. This is done so that the driver door may be unlocked by itself using a keyless entry transmitter or an automatic door unlock function (if programmed).
Passenger Door Unlock Operation
When the BCM detects a transition of either of the door lock switches to the UNLOCK position, it switches the door lock actuator unlock control circuits to voltage. Drivers side door closed and will not open.


Remove inner door latch and try operating the rod manually (vice grips). If locked, spray everything inside the door with WD-40 or the like and try operating the lock.

No ,it's not the actuators . It could be the BCM - body control module.

How to test computer controlled door locks
Each door lock switch is wired to the body control module (BCM) through a separate door lock/unlock signal circuit. While these circuits are separated between the BCM and respective door lock switch, they are connected into a single circuit within the BCM. The BCM supplies voltage through the door lock/unlock signal circuits to each door lock switch. When either door lock switch is operated, this supply voltage is pulled to ground, providing the BCM with the required lock or unlock signal. In order for the BCM to distinguish between a lock and unlock signal, the lock switch contains two separate paths for this voltage to flow to the same body ground. When the switch is operated to the unlock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a 1.5 K ohm resistor. When the switch is operated to the lock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a different part of the switch circuit, which has no resistor. The BCM then interprets the flow of voltage as a lock or unlock request and powers the door lock actuators to the appropriate lock or unlock position.
The BCM powers the reversible door latch assemblies by providing battery positive voltage and ground to the appropriate lock and unlock control circuits of the door latch assemblies. The Lock control circuits of the driver and passenger door latch assemblies are all connected together; however, the Unlock control circuits are connected in a slightly different way. While the unlock control circuits for the passenger door latch assemblies are connected together, the door latch assembly has a separate unlock control circuit. The system is designed this way so that the keyless entry transmitter may be used to unlock only the driver door. Despite this difference, all of the lock actuators perform much the same way. When the door latch assemblies are not active, all actuator Lock and Unlock control circuits are at ground potential within the BCM. Transitioning of the lock actuators to the lock or unlocked position depends upon which control circuits receive voltage and which control circuits receive ground.

My hatch won't release from the remote or the door switch. No solenoid sound at the hatch. How do I get it to open if it's not a bad fuse?


There are actually three relays , an there are controlled by the BCM - body control module !
When a door lock switch is activated in the lock or unlock position the BCM will receive a voltage signal on either the door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuits.
The BCM, upon receipt of a lock switch lock or unlock signal, will switch the appropriate lock relay control circuits to battery positive voltage. This will energize the appropriate lock or unlock relays. The relay will supply voltage to the door lock actuator lock or unlock control circuits to one side of the lock actuator. Since the opposing side of the lock actuators are connected to ground through the other lock actuator control circuit and the normally closed contacts of the lock or unlock relay, the doors and liftgate will then lock or unlock appropriately.
Three relays are used to operate the locks. DRV DR UNLCK relay, PASS DR UNLOCK and DR LCK relay. This is done to isolate the driver door lock actuator so it can be unlocked by itself using the keyless entry transmitter.
Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation
The liftgate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch.
Door/Lift gate Latch Assembly
  1. Install a 20-A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 3 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 2 and ground.
  2. Verify the actuator turns on & off.

Can I fix door actuator without opening the door


If you have the door panel off.. look real closley at the latch.. you will be able to unlatck it when you find the correct lever.. work the inner door handle and see what it moves.. follow the rod to the latch.

shorted wiring in doors or shorted door lock actuator in door. A grounding of a wire makes them lock normally. SO, any bare wire touching metal will ground it and lock the doors.

Principles of Operations
The Door Switch Lock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the lock position or a door lock cylinder is rotated to the lock position, the door lock switch grounds the lock circuit input to the central security module (CSM). The CSM then provides 12 volts to one side of the door lock actuators contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuators. This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuators to rotate a cam assembly, which then locks the doors. The 12 volts that the CSM provides to the door lock actuators are provided to both door lock actuators from a single pin on the CSM electrical connector.
The Door Switch Unlock Function When a door lock switch is moved into the unlock position, the door lock switch grounds the unlock circuit input to the CSM. The CSM then provides 12 volts to the opposite side (relative to locking the door) of the door lock actuator(s) contained in the door latch unit and simultaneously grounds the other side of the door lock actuator(s). This completes the door lock actuator circuit, causing the door lock actuator(s) to rotate a cam assembly in the opposite direction, which the unlocks the door(s). The 12 volts which the CSM provides to the door lock actuator(s) are provided to each door lock actuator from the individual pins on the CSM electrical connector.

CSM Self-Test The CSM has a self-test which can be entered into by using a diagnostic tool. This self-test will monitor the following CSM door lock inputs:
  • Unlock switch (DTC B1311)
  • Lock switch (DTC B1300)
  • Exterior lock switch (DTC B1309)
  • Exterior unlock switch (DTC B1341)
Before running the self-test, the following conditions must be met:
  • The ignition switch must be in position II
  • The driver and passenger doors must be unlocked
  • The driver and passenger doors must be opened
  • The hood and liftgate must be closed
  • The set/reset switch, and liftgate release switch are not actuated
It is important to note that all of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), with the exception of B1551 and B1553 can be retrieved with the self-test. DTCs B1551, and B1553 are continuous and will only be retrieved if the liftgate release is operated prior to retrieving the continuous DTCs.
Inspection and Verification
  1. NOTE: Make sure that the battery is fully charged before starting electrical diagnosis.
    NOTE: Prior to carrying out the CSM Self-Test, make sure that both the driver and passenger doors are open.
    Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

1996 lincoln continental door latch does not lock/unlock door from inside or outide...door stays open basically...door latch has no response, unlock/lock switch works


I have the same problem.(Door will not stay closed) The door latch itself seems worn to the point where the linkage from both the actuator or door handle causes the latch to get stuck. I can free it with a screw driver applied where linkage connects to the latch, but it will stick again. Dealer wants over 300 with actuator. I am looking in junk yard for part. Remove door panel, somehow disconnect linkage from latch. It makes more sense to remove 3 hex or star screws 1st (27mm) so latch will be more accessible. My problem is the door latch, not anything else. Good luck

Driver door lock won't unlock kneither manually or electronically


The most common problem is the door lock actuator is bad and frozen, the actuator linkage is connect to all the lock linkages so when it freezes you cant move the lock lever, you will need to unhook the actuator linkage or replace the actuator, here a picture of the actuattor, this is located inside door, you will need to remove the door panel, some are part of the latch and the whole latch need to be replaced inorder to replace actuator and some models use the actuator separte from latch with a linkage arm to latch, when ordering part they will know.i just did i lttle research and your truck has it sperate from latch but there are two type one if truck has keyless entry and one without, hope this is helpful.b95be0d.jpg

Power door lock, driver side only, does not work in my '95 Sable


if you here a noise that should mean the little motor (door lock actuator) thar works the door lock is getting power to it and it should be ok. sounds like when you changed the inside latch you must have disturbrd/disconnected the linkage or the clip that connects the lock actuator to the latch assembly(the female V-SHAPED mechanism that engages the POST/STRIKER (male part) its a little hard to name these parts so i am describing them to you. look insidethe door and see if you see any threaded RODS OR LINKAGES that are not connected at both ends.the noise youre hearing is most likely the door lock actuator "spinning"up and down but its unable to lock or unlock the door latch mechanism.
