1999 Pontiac Trans Am 5.7 Engine Automatic Transmission. Transmission went bad, only first, second and reverse worked , no third and no forth, already got a good used transmission, but I am not sure if I have to replace the torque converter as well.,is it nesessary to replace the torque converter or is it ok to put the same one it had before? It is a bad idea to use the one you had,a new one would be better,or new rebuilt, there will be trash, metal particles in the converter you will not want in this transmission.I think they are about 60 to 75 dollars, but worth the hassel of pulling it back out,I would replace all the seals and filter, before installing the transmission also.

Jimny suzuki not engaging, seems neutral always. What seems to be the problem?

welcome to usa forum, we dont have Jimny here.
but car is kind simular to a vitara.
no year stated, so that makes real accurate answers impossible.
no transmission stated. or engine size

is it a stick or auto trans?
is car 2wd or 4wd?

is the lever stuck in nutural.?
or is the lever working right but the transmission fails in all gears and reverse.
mine has stick and 5 speeds, and reverse so has 6 gears to try.
If an automatic? trans. check the levels. per the operators guide do not guess.
and change its filter, if never done.
if automatic, make sure the lever moves its cable and the other end of cable is still attached to the trans lever. on the box.
they both move same amount, (cable drive does that)
if not the cable is bad, or bits there.

you will need to have repaired third and fourth gear shift fork has came loose to repair trans must be removed. once inside more damage may be found the forks dont just pop out in most cases.

Transmission wont shift to third

If you have lost third you have an internal problem. It will either be the input carrier, third/forth clutches, or a valve body issue. You may price a rebuild job at a trans shop, or a trans from a wrecking yard. 700R4 trans is getting hard to find from wrecking yards. Good Luck

Hi, I have a 1998 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, automatic transmission, has had problems for quite awhile shifting from second to third and now reverse is out. Shifting solenoid?

Hello, I see you are having a transmission problem. I sorry to be the bearer of bad news.It seems as though you may have already known it but the problem that you have had with second gear, could have been a servo bad but with reverse going out it may be the servo an band in the trans. It will need to be overhauled, in my opinion, since the transmission must now come out. Please rate my answer, Thank you.

E40d trans will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, only rev. 1+2

check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine

Automatic transmission problem

May be the Throttle Position Sensor. Normally the check engine light will come on when this happens.
