This will not cover cracked heads:

If your engine is overheating, Try this procedure:

  • Dirt and debris can get lodged in the radiator air flow paths. This can block the radiator and cause your engine to overheat and damage the engine.

  • The thermostat can be stuck close. If you feel the upper hose very hot and the lower hose cooler than normal, it may be a stuck thermostat.

  • Make sure the radiator and the overflow bottle are filled to the proper levels.

  • Bleed air from the coolant system:This is best done by running the engine with the radiator cap off until you see when the air bubbles stop coming up.

  • Check the radiator fans: The easiest way is to turn on the cars air conditioner and turn up the A/C fans. Both radiator fans should come on when the A/C starts

  • Make a pressure test by using a pressure testing tool (available at most auto parts stores). Use the pressure shown on your radiator cap. Most cars are 16 PSI or less, so don't exceed that pressure. Replace the radiator cap if it doesn't hold the pressure.

WHAT COULD CAUSE OVER HEAT AND CRACK THE CYLINDER HEAD?

normal result for heads that are overheated
what causes it
heat differences in sections of the heads causes cracks, bad design of the cooling ducts in the head , pouring cold water into an over heated engine without the engine running to circulate the water
prevention si better than cure so check the radiator level at least weekly

Cannot diagnose or run temp. Sealer for what i believe is head blown because car wont start it cranks but sputters and kills battery?

Sounds like head gasket again, but may be more serious this time. Overheating is not something to take lightly.

Pull plugs. crank. Water come out of cylinders? Head gasket. Possible cracked block or head this time, too. I'd be looking at a replacement engine.

Ran hot and died while adding water to rad now wont start

Blown headgasket is most likely. Possibly cracked head/block (water may be in the oil) If you are lucky, the spark plug wires are just wet and killing spark. Hard to tell with no vehicle information.

My 76,Chevy blazer 4x4...327...heated up on n water pump is shot...I hoping I nvr cracked the block or warped heads...no water n oil ...when I added water it went out excust pipes ...can u help

If you have water exiting via the exhaust you have at least one cracked head. Take the exhaust manifolds off and pressurize the radiator to check if you have one or both cracked. You really won't know with the block until it's stripped and measured, or you could just fit another set of heads and water pump on hope for the best.

My car froze up from water in the engine. i got it all and added antifreeze but the car still wont start

Water when frozen, can crack heads and crack the block. Also break the radiator. How did you get the frozen water out with out starting the engine?

99 ford windstar will crank but wont start after over heating?

While overheating may be the issue, does the exhaust emit a steam-like cloud or sweet smell? There is a part which cuts off power to the fuel pump. This part is called an Inertia sensor. If a door or the hood is slammed, it can activate.

It is usually behind a front floor kickpanel and has a reset button on it. Read the Web for articles showing photos.

My escort overheated so added water then i tried to start the car but it wont start, its cranks but it wont start

need add add antifreeze half antifreeze and water to raise coolant boiling point. replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.wait until engine cool then try starting it up.depends on how long you drove car when engine over heated.if you turn off engine soon as it over heated no harm done.if you kept on driving and engine die of lack of cooling, and car wont crank you could have blown head gasket warped or cracked cylinder head.

Car turns over but does not start. Battery good

If it over heated, could have bad head gasket's, fill radiator with water, crank engine with radiator cap off, if water is push out of radiator while cranking, bad head gaskets', also remove spark plug's, crank engine if any water, bad head gasket, also when spark plug's removed, check for any water on them.If there is any water on plug's, bad head gasket, also could try doing a cylinder compression test, if bad compression, head gasket, no compression, wont start that way.
