Question about 2000 Acura Integra

1 Answer

I have an Acura Integra Special Edition, 2000, and the engine light came on a couple of days ago. Sometimes the car is hard to start, it takes a bit to turn over. Today I got a full tank of gas and then at a stop sign the car was revving at around 4000 rpm. I first thought the mat was stuck over the gas pedal. It wasn't. It kept revving high and white smoke was coming out. I drove to Honda as there is no Acura in town, but they were closed. They are also closed tomorrow. Any idea on what problem this is? I will try to read the code too. Your help is appreciated! My email is gracehop@uvic.ca

White smoke is not good. If it was coming from the exhaust that is a symptom of a head gasket leak. Engine overheating is the most common cause of head gasket failure so if it has overheated recently, a head gasket is more likely. Verify adequate coolant level and normal water temperature until it can be checked by a mechanic.

Sounds like you need to test voltage coming out of the alternator. Look for 12-14.1 volts using a multi meter. If that is ok then you have an ecu problem

Most likely a problem with the battery or the alternator. There may also be an issue with the starting block. Difficult to say without actually testing the unit. Also, make sure that there is enough fuel in the tank. I know that sounds obvious, but is often overlooked..

I think it would be best to have a mechanic take a look so he can conduct tests and offer a diagnosis..

Had the same problem with my 05 Accord, and it was
the starter. But before you take it in for repairs, have
some parts house like Autozone check your battery
and the cable connections to the battery posts. Of
course, when it does crank and its strong, it's most
likely the starter. Acura will be a bit pricey so hope
you have a good mechanic.

Car won't start right away.

The clicking is the solenoid in your starter, you need to check your battery terminals, then check your starting voltage with a multi meter on DC volts, put the leads on your battery terminals if your battery voltage is dropping below 11 volts you need to get a new battery.... you need to check the connections to your starter....
