Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy

1 have a 99 jimmy with passlock. I need the part that is positioned directly below the key cylinder that allows the key to be removed after it is put in park. the part that moves in and out doesn.t always work

No your vehicle doesn't have a chip key . You can just replace the key and lock cylinder . Without a key to copy ! Or the dealer can cut a key using the Vin #

The Passlock™ sensor is separate from the key and lock cylinder. The key and the lock cylinder work together in order to determine if the proper ignition key was used to start the vehicle.
The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key turns the lock cylinder. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the passlock™ sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previousely learned voltage code. If the codes match, a class 2 message is sent from the BCM to the vehicle control module (VCM)/powertrain control module (PCM). The message enables the fuel injectors.

How to program key to ignition for a 1998 Chevy truck w/vortex v6 engine..I tried it myself an it did crank but will not stay running


Program KEY ? There is no transponder in the key for a 1998 Chevy truck . What problem are you have ,no start ? Is the SECRUITY light lit on the dash ? you don't need to program keys with this ant-theft system .
Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) Operation

The mechanical key, in normal operation, will turn the passlock lock cylinder. The passlock sensor will relay the passlock data to theEVO/Passlock module. The EVO/Passlock module will determine the validity of the passlock data. The EVO/Passlock module will send a code password to the vehicle/powertrain control module (VCM/PCM). When the VCM/PCM receives the correct code the VCM/PCM allows the fuel injectors to operate normally. The passlock system requires the VCM and the EVO/Passlock module to communicate the various functions in order to operate. These functions transmit over the class 2 serial data line CKT 1807. Replaced stearing column on a 2000 Silverado now it won't start


Did you change the lock cylinder ? You need to put the passlock?"¢ sensor out of your old steering column into the replacement one. Is the security light lit in the instrument cluster ?

Without the proper testing equipment an knowledge ( factory service info. ) You have no idea what's up . an don't have a chance of fixing this . Checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is always the first step . Take's a professional type scan tool to read these codes. Serial data info from module incharge to PCM/ECM ,enable or disable fuel and or starter operation . Sends coded messages Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . That white component is the ignition switch .

When i turn over the ignition it starts for a second then dies. why?


the problem is the passlock .This system allows starter operation,then kills the injectors 1-2 seconds after startup.The key cylinder housing has a small magnet that rotates past the passlock sensor.The sensor is powered and detects rotation.This is a Anti-Theft System for 2000 jimmy

I have a 2005 impala and the security liht is on and the car woun't turn on.. we replace ignitation with a new one that we purches at the chevrolet dealer, and it still woun't turn on.


Hi... Yoou will need to program the new Ignition lock cylinder.
This vehicle use a Theft Deterrent system....
The passlock sensor Is part of the cylinder assemble
Some times this prosses need to be done more than one time.
If the first FAIL..
.
Here is the prosses to program the new cylinder.
Be sure to have a good battery, or use a battery charged during the prosses..

Remove the old Ignition switch.
Install the new Ignition switch. with the new Passlock sensor.
Turn the key to on position and try to start a few senconds. them leave the key on run position.
For 10 minutes and NOT more than 11 minutes.
Them turn the key to OFF position for exactly 30 seconds.
Them turn the key to Run position 10 minutes or 11.
them turn back the key to OFF position for 30 seconds.
Them turn the key to Run position 10 minutes or 11,
Turn the key to OFF position and wait 1 minute, them try to start the vehicle.
If the car start you are DONE.
But if Not Letme know to give you more information.

2004 jimmy will not start


The first thing to check is: make sure selector was all the way in park. If it didn't lock in park (it showed in park but doesn't lock) you can't take the key out.

I had the issue before. The issue turned out to be that the voltage from the battery was low due to corroded terminals. Once that was cleaned up and the voltage restored to normal, the key came out. Come to find out that this was a common issue in that vehicle, voltage goes low, you cant remove the key.

To remove the Key: there is a small hole on the steering column below the area of where the ignition key cylinder is. If you have this, you can remove the small cover and take a small tool like an allen wrench or a pen and push it up in there and that will press on a release mechanism that should allow you to turn the key back to its release position and pull the key out.

Location of ignition switch on 2006 gmc envoy


PATH: Chassis Electrical > Instruments & Switches > Ignition Switch > Removal & Installation Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the airbag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  3. Remove the hush and knee bolster.
  4. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  5. With the key installed, turn the key to the RUN position.
  6. Install a hex wrench into the hole on top of the lock cylinder housing. Push down on the hex wrench to release the tab on the lock cylinder inside the lock cylinder housing.

  1. Slide the lock cylinder out of the lock cylinder housing.
  2. Disconnect the passlock and key buzzer from the lock cylinder housing.
  3. Insert into the lock cylinder housing

Release the tabs on the ignition switch using ignition switch connector release tool J 42759

  1. Pull the ignition switch out of the lock cylinder housing.
  2. Disconnect the connector from the ignition switch.
To install:
  1. Verify the alignment of the gear in the ignition switch. If gear is not in position shown, turn gear in ignition switch until you reach the correct position.
  2. Use a screwdriver to rotate the lock cylinder housing gear counterclockwise until it hits a stop. In order to reach a stop while rotating the lock cylinder housing gear you MUST push and hold in the solenoid on the electric park lock.
  3. Connect the connector to the ignition switch.
  4. Insert the ignition switch into the lock cylinder housing. The tabs on the ignition switch MUST be seated inside the lock cylinder housing for proper installation.
  5. Use a screwdriver to rotate the lock cylinder housing gear clockwise to the start position—allowing it to spring return into the RUN position.

  2. Connect the passlock and key buzzer into the lock housing.
