Question about 1994 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

1994 isuzu trooper manual trans. When in gear sounds louder then normal, & feels different, kind of rough, or dry. When I take it out of gear, it coast smooth & quiet. After my Internet Research, I'm guessing one or all of these 3... 1. "Manual Trans Oil", 2. "Front & Rear Differential Oil" or 3. "The Gearbox Oil" Can any tell me "How" and What type of Oil"? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Hank in Texas.

First off, check the fluid levels for each, and if the trans,is in neural ,and there is no noise,it most likely is just the transmission, check the fluid level,to see if it is dry.If the fluid is clear,or red,use dextron 2,if it is thick, and grey, use 90 weight gear oil,it is likely it is low.

Great, I will start with the transmission oil.. a few more questions, so I get it right...
    1. I thought Dextron 2 was for Automatic Trans, I have a 5-speed Maunal Trans.
The owner's manual says to use Engine Oil labeled SG or SF SAE 20W-40.
Is Dexton 2 OK for Manual Trans ?

    2. The Owner's book diagram shows 2 Oil Fill Plugs on the Right Side, and
2-Drain plugs on the Left Side, same oil for both, correct,
and do I need a special Tool or Applicator to add the oil to the Filler Plugs?

    3. Is there a way to check level on a 1994 Trooper with Manual Transmission?
or do I go by reaching the Oil Filler Plug Hole?

Remove the plug that is higher up,the other one is for draining,if the book says engine oil ,then use it,but dextron is used in some trans, ans transfer cases, but use what the book says, but check the fluid level,it is going to most likely be low,you may have to use a suction gun to **** the fluid up,and then push it in the fill hole until it runs out, then it is full, there should be no special tools required.

Isuzu Trooper 1997. Automatic Transmission holds gears too long.

Their is a power and normal drive in trooper's power for pulling a trailer and normal for normal driving. The power drive only changes gear at higher R.P.M. Their is a switch on the plastic cover under the handbrake with p & n their is a light in the dash as well. If you are not aware of this switch then just needs switching over if you are aware of it then its probably the fuse to activate it or a wiring problem with it, Cheers
