The coil pack with the #5 coil is located on the right side, or the coil pack more towards the passenger side. Here is a diagram to help you out.

1997 merc grnd marquis how is the firing order arranged at the coil clockwise /counter clockwise and which is the wire for cylinder 1 and 5

The coil should be marked on top if it is an OEM coil. If it has been replaced, there may be no marks. Here is a diagram of the coil packs and which cylinder each coil tower goes to.

I got code PO 305 on a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, what is the spark plug wire part called
This will have a direct coil over ignition with a coil over each spark plug. The coil is the electrical part over the spark plug. The coil also has a rubber part that is called the boot or spark plug boot. The boots can be purchased separately but the coils will come with new boots.

is it #5 coil,

Have you checked to see if there is any spark coming out of the number 5 coil?

and should I replace the coil and spark plug and what should the spark plug be gapped at?

When was the last time the spark plugs where changed? It may be due for all the spark plugs to be changed. The spark plug gap is usually listed on the emissions sticker under the hood. It should be .050 - .056 or very close to that.

Where are the spark plugs located

On these models Ford/Mercury included the coil and the spark plug wires in one unit. The coils are black and round, they have a wire connector to each one. In order to pull the coil, you need to disconnect the wire and remove the bolt holding the coil pack in place. After doing this, you can pull the coil pack out; then you can pull out the spark plug with a 5/8 spark plug socket.

On a 2000 Mercury Marquis, do you need to remove

The fuel rail can stay in place. Loosen the 7mm headed screw that secures the coil pack and loosen and rotate the coil out. The rubber part of the coil allows enough movement to get it around the fuel rail.
