Hi! Since when did this starts? Im suspecting a freon leakage which definitely needs a fix. The expansion valve may be faulty too, a faulty expansion valve gives cold air at first and when the piston is stucked it will start blowing warm air. Have your compressor checked too for it may have a faulty clutch or has a shaft seal leak. Hope this helps and have a good one!

The problem started the day after a 12 hr Memorial Day trip and has been doing it ever since. I don't suspect a leak since it does work for a short period of time and a leak would deplete the system eventually and I'd get no cold air from that point on. I also see no frost buildup or any oil on any lines. I checked the fuse for the compressor and that was fine and I switched the relay and the problem persists. I'm thinking electrical since it does work for several minutes then stops. I've watched the tach and listened to the compressor clutch to kick in and I see or hear on indication it is engaged when hot air is blowing. Thanks

Thanks for the clarification. The problem could be on the expansion valve itself. The piston inside the expansion valve may stuck occasionally and fails to give cold air. Once the piston starts working again there it blows cold air again. Replace the expansion valve to resolve the problem.

Make sure your fan clutch is working. No fan, no cooling of the condenser, no heat dissipation, no cold air. Start the truck and make sure you feel air movement, a lot.

Check your blend door actuator. It is a very common issue. These links should be helpful:

2003 jeep grand cherokee heater problem

Jeep Grand Cherokee is notorious for broken blend-air doors. This is the door inside the A/C-heater housing that switches the air from hot to cold. You must remove the dash to repair it.

2004 grand cherokee overland model heater and air conditioner temperature not working correct has the split controls for driver and passenger temp control, one side will blow cold the other hot, and it is...

this model has a couple of possibilities, updated heater control panel which is quite an expensive guess also the blend doors located in the heater casing break also an expensive repair as dash needs to be removed t gain access, would advise dealer visit first to confirm correct fault.

FIRST CHECK TO SEE THAT THERE IS FREON IN SYSTEM OR COMPRESSOR WILL NOT ENGAGE MAY JUST NEED FREON WITH OIL IN IT.( WHEN YOU TURN ON A/C DOES CENTER PART OF COMPRESSOR START TO TURN)?

look for Main A/C relay, look for fuses, or go to a/c shop and have gas check out, perhaps leaks, perhaps evaporator, perhaps condenser, but start for relay box on front passengers side, or fuses on same side
