Whats wrong with it? there is no 'fixing" you will need to replace it. check the tie rods and it wil lneed a front end alignment.

I have 1998 fordwindstar and it is blowing cold air instead of heat.

this problm is caused by a defective air temperature control blend door or a blend door actuator motor, both are replaced during a repair, the motor and the door it operates is buried deep in the dash, the entire dash assmebly must be removed to replace the defective parts (a 10-12 job), a factory service manual is a must, on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult this is a 9

1998 for windstar gl..grinding noise in steering

i don't think it is the pump. The pump would generally make a noise all the time because the motor's belt is what powers your power steering pump. Sometimes you will hear it bog down the motor when it is being turned all the way to one side or the other but that sould be about it. The grinding you described sounds like a rack and pinion problem and not anything to do with the pump itself. I hope im wrong because rack and pinion fixes are much more expensive and time comsuming to repair

Most likely the problem is the steering rack, it is a very easy repair, but you will need to have the front end aligned after you are done installing the rack assembly, make sure all the old fluid is flushed from the system or the new rack will fail from debris left over from the old failed rack
