Question about 2000 Honda CR-V

1 Answer

My 2000 honda crv loses power coming up a hill, almost dies when going slowly around a corner. For a few seconds coming up a steep hill and losing power, the check engine light came on for about 3 secs.

I have the exact same problem. I've replaced the ignition switch, the main(fuel pump) relay, the fuel pump and filter. No dice. Any luck with your CR-V??? You find a solution?

My car is doing the same thing.... I have found that the likely cause is the catalytic converter.....I just had my factory converter replaced when the clamp rusted out...about 5 months ago...I'm heading back to the garage to see what they can do about the replacement one failing.

check your 02 sensors, also sometimes that could be from clogged cat.converters, usually from bad gas, i had the same problem, but lucky for me, i went up a steep hill,i forced it and i heard a loud pop, black smoke, then i got my power back, but ive been told that could be dangerous as you can destroy ur engine from back flow, good luck

Car loses speed when climbing a steep hill.

Start with the fuel filter. Thats the most common thing. If no difference come back.

Problems with losing power when i'm driving along

Hi
It's most likely the EGR Valve, "Exhaust Gas Recycler Valve" when they start to go you lose loads of power especailly at 30-50 and on hill's

Is the engine light or any lights on the dash?
EGR Valves are about £130 you can fit them your self also.

Somedays it wil not do it at all other days you can barely drive the car.

Worth mentioning you may be able to clean it, so have a go before buying a new one. Use carb cleaner and spray it all over it, dont be shy, you cant damage it. dry it off and re-fit it that cures it then you should be ok, but be aware it may fail over the coming months.

Hope this helps, if not get back to me for more info.
It could be a few things but your description is so presise I would say it's The EGR.

Dan

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.

do you plug it in at night and in cold weather? Sounds like a fuel problem. Check your fuel filter and add conditioner to your fuel. Hope this helps.
