The Blower Motor Resistor is located on the passenger side firewall, not far from your A/C's H-Valve (or expansion valve), going inside of the vehicle. The blower motor resistor has a 4 or 5 way black connector plugged into it and this is the only visible portion of the Resistor you will see. Remove the wiring connector and remove the 2 or 3 screws with an 8 mm or 5/16" socket (8 mm and 5/16" are the same). Once the screws or fasteners are removed, just pull the blower motor resistor out of the firewall and if you look at it, it will have various coils of wire on it, sometimes it will show burnt coils, but you can always check the various coils with an Ohm-meter.

Aside from that, install the new Blower Motor Resistor and Voilà! Your inside Blower Motor should work just fine.

A brief note here, if your fan doesn't work when the fan switch is on High, then it's not the Blower Motor Resistor, but possibly the Blower Motor itself. Should this occur, please get back to me insofar as how to replace the blower motor and why the blower motor's wires have to be twisted...even with the new blower motor fan.

Best of Luck,

The fan wont come on when i turn the ac/heater on

Hi,
Common issue is the 'blower resistor' going out. You can usually buy the part @ an auto parts store or @ the dealer. The dealer should know where it's located - I do not.

Some times, you have to replace the entire blower motor. View this LINK for info.

The AC/Heater vent fan isn't turning on in my 1989 dodge dynasty I know the blower motor is good because i've already pulled it out and checked it, I also know it isn't the fuse either. Can anyone give me...

usually the switch or the resistor or both. according to the book, your resistor is mounted in the engine compartment along the firewall (see picture below). It is held in with 2 bolts or screws and has several wires coming out of it. If you can find the resistor, take it out and see if it looks burned. If yes, replace. This may fix it, but if the switch is worn out it may kill the resistor again. To test the switch you need to use an ohmmeter and make sure it only has continuity at one terminal for each setting. let me know if you have questions.

This will not be the switch itself it will be the blower motor resistor itself. These vehicles have had a notorious tsb for these resistors doing this. This resistor is located right next to the blower motor on the evaporator box. It's on the pass front side right below the dash.I hope I could help...rate me accordingly

How to fix 1999 lincoln TC heater/AC fan speed. Speed is intermittent or not blowing at all. Fan sometimes blows at full speed then may start to turn on and off. Sometimes it does not blow at all.

You have a problem with the resistors on your blower motor. 95% of AC/Heater blower motors are located under the glove box in the passanger foot well. When you remove the motor you should see a resistor plate. Resistors are not servicable and will need to be replaced. This is a relatively cheap part, that you can replace yourself if your handy, if not take it to your local tech.

The resistors are in circuit only on the lower fan speed settings.
On the highest speed setting, power is switched directly to the fan motor.
Check fan power supply fuses,
Check power is available to the fan when high speed selected.
If all above OK, apply power directly to the motor to verify fan motor runs- if it doesn't the motor may need replacement/repair.

AC & Heater Fan on fast spped only

Most of the time this is a bad "blower motor resistor". It is easy to replace. You will find your behind the glove box in the ac/heater (evaporator) housing. Below is a pic of the resistor as it is seen from behind the glove box. 1. resistor assembly. 2. harness 3. fasteners (2). 4. lower edge of glove box. (open).
