I am assuming that you have tried all the obvious like checking fuses, and relays ect. If the fuses are good and the relay is good (you can swap it with another realy of the same type to test it) it's probably the fan itself that is bad. These are pretty easy to find on sites like ebay and craigslist. It's easier to spend $20-$30 on the fan to find out if it's something else.<!-- from fixya rte -->

SOURCE: 2002 jeep grande cherokee check engine light

A common problem on many of the new cars is that when a person gets gas, they don't tighten up the gas cap. This will turn on the check engine light. Did you get gas recently? Another option is to see what code is stored in the ECU that turned the light on. This is done with a scanner tool. If you do not have a scanner, then have a dealer look at it.

The relay is under the right front headlamp assembly and bracket. You can access it two ways. Remove the front bumper facia, headlights, and bracket assembly. The grill is part of the facia and the headlight bracket runs all the way across the front. Or you can remove the right headlamp and use a hole saw to cut through the bracket, it is a plastic material.

Fan relay location for 1999 Jeep cherokee

If anyone has a Jeep cherokee and the electric fan doesn't work. First jump the fan motor with a hot wire. If it works you'll need a relay. The fun part.........Pull out the right side headlight assembly, if there is no hole close to the inner fender to access it. One will have to cut out aprox. 3" hole to access the fan relay.

Constantly replacing fan relay on my 2003 Jeep Cherokee

You should try getting the factory part because this is a common issue amongst jeep grand Cherokee's. it could also be the location because it is behind the bumper underneath the head light and that is an unusual spot for it to be placed.

AC electric fans do not work???

First, hot wire the fan motor to the battery. If it works, then locate the relay in the power distribution center and change it. Also check any fuses related.

Radiator fan not working replaced relay, temp switch and fuse fan works if hot wired it's on a 2001 jeep grand cherokee

Check the wiring from the relay to the fan motor, and check the wiring from the fuse block. Basically check all wires that supply power to the fan motor, use a volt meter. Fan Relay (behind headlight, under battery) on the 2001 GC 4.0L are a piece of ****, I change mine almost yearly. The problem is their location, a high heat area prone to the elements. I understand that 2002 and newer, the location was changed and the problem solved. Relay might close the circuit when cold or at reasonable temps, but might open a circuit when it heats up, causing the problem.
