Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Engine over heats,Im losing antifreeze, smaller fan does not work but the large fan works fine. I have flushed the coolant and changed therastat.

Can you see where the antifreeze may be coming from. it could be the weep hole in the water pump letting the water out, this is "saying the water pump is bad " or it could be a simple problem as the coolant cap isn't holding the pressure and needs to be replaced. This will cause a car to over heat and lose coolant.

no pressure in top hose ,where are u losing pressure, the coolant will boil if not under pressure suspect you have a leak or faulty rad cap. some minor leaks dont show until engines warm and are mostly steam leaving little evidence. look for an antifreeze stain or scale deposit around every connection . if electric fanned make sure it works and cuts in before it go,s into the red

I have a 99 chry cirrus and an issue of over heating well oly to the point of hearing the coolant boiling but guage doesnt read HOT I have replaced the thermostat, heat sensor, and fan assembly, was told...


From your description the most probable causes are a clogged radiator and/or inoperative fan. Before replacing anything read these troubleshooting tips to see if you've missed anything.
When checking coolant level dont check the bottle. Check by opening the radiator cap. It is on the right hand front side of the engine on the thermostat housing. Remember to only open this cap on a cold engine.
In order to test the fan motor connect battery voltage to pins 1 and 2 of the fan connector (That is the 2 pins closest to the v-shaped tabs on the connector)
On the 2.0 and 2.4l cylinder engines the waterpump is powered by the toothed side of the cambelt and it is therefore impossible to slip.
On 2.5l engines slippage may occur if there is oil leaking onto the cambelt. This can only be verified by removal of the cambelt covers.
Open the heater control to full hot and let the vehicle idle until operating temp is achieved. Let it cool down and check the coolant level again.
As for the A/C, you can remove the electrical connection on the A/C compressor in the engine bay and then use the A/C to operate the secondary fan.

My temp gauge goes to the third line before fans come on and only the low fan comes on. I already replaced thermostat, engine coolant temp. sensor and radiator flush... any idea why high fans dont come on...

If you're losing coolant you have a leak. Go to the shop that flushed your system and have them check for leaks. They may have left a hose clamp or a drain bolt lose.

2001 blazer - i have changed radiater,heatercore,waterpump and 2 thermostats - still overheating on me? coolant level is fine until it gets hot and boils out overflow tank? help!


Are your antifreeze 50/50 mix. Too much antifreeze ratio will cause over heating, the antifreeze will start to gel when it get's hot causing poor circulation. Water is the best liquid for heat transfer but it will also boil over and steam out the radiator cap, that is why antifreeze is added to keep this from happening. Looks like you have covered most of the base on your cooling system, Did you do a complete cooling system flush to get some of the corrosion out and it's been know for the orange antifreeze when gelled will clog up the cooling system. Make surer you have 50/50 mix and if you not sure you can buy a antifreeze meter at any large parts store like Auto Zone. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

94 cutlass supreme is overheating,all fluids are fine. I did have someone tell me i need 3 motor mounts replaced. could this be an issue of the car overheating?


Over heating can be caused by a faulty thermostat and or weak water pump and dirty radiator and old antifreeze or the radiator fan now working when at idle but should not over heat when driving. Service the cooling system if it has never been serviced before. Replace the thermostat, buy some radiator flush to clean out the radiator and heater core. Just follow the instruction and replace the antifreeze and make sure it's a 50/50 mix water/antifreeze. If you not sure how to mix it 50/50 you can buy them 50/50 premixed. Water boils at 100'C so you need antifreeze mixed with it but antifreeze does not have the same heat transfer as water so you cannot run 100% antifreeze cause it does not transfer heat fast enough and you over heat. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, Be glad to help, once you service the cooling system and your still over heating, then we look at the water pump.

Is the coolant full ? Any discoloring of the coolant ,look like muddy water ? gm dexcool antifreeze if mixed with regular green coolant can gum up the works , clog heater cores , radiators etc.... Have you ever had the thermostat changed , cooling system flushed ?

Engine gets hot


There are 3 potential problems:
--faulty thermostat. If it is not opening all the way by the time the engine reaches 160-180 deg F...then coolant is not flowing enough.
--partially blocked radiator caused by build up of rust over the years if never flushed as regular maintenance.
--Insufficient coolant to water ratio. Should be at least 30% or more coolant in the radiator.
--Or combination of above.
