Hello there:
you can reset the light by disconnecting the battery cables and touching them together for about one minute this should reset the light then if light comes back on you may want to replace the sending unit and also may just want too check wiring to make sure it is good hope this helps you out please leave a review thanks sincerely D.Jones..

Check engine light on for 2004 vw bug engine coolant low possible thermostat issues'

If the coolant level is the problem, the engine would be getting hot. If it is getting hot, add coolant and check for leaks. Use your owners manual maintenance chapter.
if the engine is not getting hot, the thermostat is stuck open. If your husband cannot find the thermostat by himself, I recommend you go to a shop. You have to be a good mechanic to replace a thermostat properly.

No heat already changed the thermostat

Check vacuum hoses. There's one between engine and firewall at the passanger side that operates ur heater. This little creature dries up due heat expossure and cracks causing a vacuum leak that will trigger ur check engine light as well..

Check engine light comes on. diagnostic test

Never heard of a thermostat sensor. There is a diagnostic code that wil lbe set if the engine computer observes that the thermostat is not allowing the engine to reach operating temperature quickly enough. This code is based on information sent by the engine coolant temperature sensor. 99.9% of the time a new thermostat solves the problem. Use an AC Delco thermostat.
