If the light comes on as you turn on the ignition and stays on when you drive. This indicates that the ABS control unit is faulty or there is an open circuit in the wiring, most likely to the wheel speed senders. Look at the sensors harness's near the tyres as these some times come loose and get worn through by the tyre. If the light only comes on once the vehicle is motion, this indicates that one of the wheel sensors is not getting a signal due to incorrect space between sensor and ABS ring or a dirty sensor. If the front CV joints or the rear discs have been replaced the ABS rings may have been left off. Have somebody with a diagnostic tester check the fault memory as this will pinpoint the fault a lot quicker.

Why is my jetta losing a/c power when ABS light comes on?

It sounds like you have a low voltage problem in the system, that is about all that will cause this. Keep in mind you must have the Alternator tested when this is actually happening, if not the system will test ok.

ABS light comes on, traction light, and airbag light. The radio turns off, and everything dims. Then the car dies & won't restart. Its not Alt or Batt.

There should be a fuse between your battery and alt. If the fuse is blown, the current isnt getting back to the batt.

Something like this also happened to my brother in his Jetta, Im not saying its the same thing but his timing belt gave out.

Open the hood. Lift the battery cover, then there is a little black box on top of the battery. Open it. bet it is burnt and melted. Do NOT take it to the dealership. You'll pay $600 . You need an alternator cable and a new fuse block. 30min fix.

Hello - I just bought a 2004 Jetta - day one - mil light came on. Car runs fine. What could it be? 2 mechanics checked the car over before I bought it and carfax said it was one owner no problems.

Have VW check it out. I had just got my 04 GLI with 70,000 miles when the light came on. The thermostat triggered the light and so I had the whole timing belt, thermostat, and water pump service. Worth the money.

The ABS dashboard light comes on when cold start. After the second time the car is started and driven off over 25 Km/h, the light goes out.

It is a probabilty that the ABS Brake Exciter Rings, or the Sensor Heads have been contaminated. It means removing each wheel in turn, disconnect each ABS wiring coupler and reconnecting it, and then loking at each ring and sensor in turn, and cleaning the rings witha Wire Brush, and the Sensor with solvent.

1999 vw jetta vr6 abs light stays on, but brakes work fine

the only way you will find this out is to have a diagnostic machine plugged in and the fault memory read to check what fault is logged, it could be anything from a ABS wheel speed sensor to a control module fault, to save money in the long run i would advise you get the fault memory read first. hope this helps
