Have you checked the fuse? There is no separate fuse for just the license plate lights. Those lights are part of the main exterior lighting circuit. If those are the only lights not functioning, you might nave a broken wire or bad ground. So then you would have to trace the wires and find the problem or replace them altogether.

Let me know how this works out for you.

License plate light out of order

Get your hands on a manual......(OEM or Hanes, etc) either online or from someone who owns the same car. It's the only way to find the correct fuse to see if that's the problem. You could start by checking the color code of the wires to the light........then look for the same color back at the panel.....but that's a pain.Good luck, buddy!

I have a 2000 buick century back up lights aren't working, changed bulbs and notice that the license lights aren't working either. Checked the taillamp fuse it's okay. Is this the right fuse?

The back up lights may be on a separate fuse from the tail lights. The license plate light should be fused with the tail lights though. The bulbs are good on the license plate light too? Did you have the ignition switch on when you were checking the back up lights? It could be the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment or the switch is bad. Does the car start OK in both neutral and park? If so the switch adjustment is probably good, but the back-up light portion of the switch could be bad. That switch is located on top of the transmission, about right under the master cylinder for the brakes. You have to disconnect the shift cable lever from the trans to get the switch off.

Check the bulb in the license plate light it could be burned out. Also check for loose wires you may have to take the panel off the back door in order to find it.

License plate lights do not work after replacing both of them

They are on the same electrical circuit as your marker lights. You could have a bad ground at the license plate area.
