Really clean your battery connectors, battery acid and residue is toxic and will eat holes in your clothes, rinse with lots of water immediately. Make sure jumper cables are beefy or they will not allow enough power. If your starter clicks, it is either stuck engine, weak battery, dead solenoid connectors or dead armature inside the starter. In rare cases cable connections can come loose at the solenoid or at the ignition switch. (A mechanic knows to take some solenoids apart and turn the connectors upside down to the uncorroded side.) A starter needs a Lot more power than any other auto device.

My 2006 buick lacrosse wont start radio and lights work but its not saying nothing when i try to crank it

Hello! Do you hear a click when the key is turned?...If no click is heard either the ignition key, the Crank relay, the starter, or the battery are suspect...Having lights and radio does not mean the battery is capable of running a starter motor......Put a meter on the battery...should read 12.5 volts...Turn key...Does voltage drop to 8 or 9 volts? Bad battery...If all is well with battery and connections to it...Check the starter fuse # 33 in the under hood fuse/relay box...If the fuse is good that click you should hear is from the Crank Relay in that box...If all of the above is OK connect your meter to the Purple wire that is connected to the starter motor...When the key is turned 12 volts must be on that wire...If there is the starter motor is defective...So, #1...Do you hear a click when key is turned...That would point at a bad starter or weak battery...#2...If you do not hear a click bad fuse #33, bad Crank Relay, bad ignition switch...#3...If fuse is good Bad Crank Relay or Ignition switch; Crank Relay is a low cost item ($10)...Replace Relay...Stop there and send a comment as to results...Guru...saailer

2002 hyundai Santa fe will not start. I turn key and starter turned for 3 seconds then stopped and now when i turn key NOTHING. I hear a circuit sound in back of car when i turn key but no other sound. ...

Definitely a starting system problem. That sound you hear in the back is the fuel pump.

Starting system circuit components (besides wiring harness)
1. Ignition Key Switch - closes the starter relay control circuit to energize the relay and close the contacts inside the relay (you can check this by locating the relay in the underhood fuse/relay box and have a friend turn the key while you listen/feel if the relay 'clicks'
2. Starter Relay or its Contacts
3. Starter Solenoid - pushes/pulls the starter gear into the engine's flywheel ring-gear and its contacts close to provide battery power to the starter itself.
4. Starter itself - poor brush contact with the armature's commutator will prevent the starter to spin/turn

If you are 'Electrically' talented, you can check to see if you're getting battery power to the starter solenoid by using a simple 12 volt test light/bulb. Connect one lead to the starter solenoid terminal and the other to chassis/engine ground and have a buddy turn the ignition key - if the light turns 'ON', then you know that particular circuit is OK but the starter solenoid is not energizing to push the starter gear into the flywheel ring-gear to turn the engine over. If it doesn't, the problem is elsewhere (wiring, starter relay, starter relay control circuit, etc).

You can have a qualified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose your vehicle. OR, you can Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals, service bulletins, illustrations, etc.

How to see if my starter is good

Hi!!

First, check Starter FUSE and RELAY, if they are OK!! Follow this direccions to find out if your starter is busted.

When you turn the ignition key to the START position, if it cranks up (turns over), your STARTER IS OK, if it makes a CLICKING SOUND, the battery is weak, when you HEAR ONLY ONE CLICK, the starter selenoid IS GOOD, the starter may be the problem.

Good Luck!!

Turn the ignition on my 330d fuel pump buzzing ok all the lights ok but no power to starter, no click nothing. shorted out starter motor terminals and motor works

test power to starter with a voltmeter while someone else turns the key. if you are getting power, than solenoid is faulty. If you are not getting power, than relay or ignition switch is bad. Do double check your battery connections to make sure they are metal to metal contact.

95 explorer on start it just clicks . relay and battery are ok can you help me to next steps

Always start with good clean secure battery terminal connections also check other end of both wires for same. Check battery with a voltmeter. Check trigger wire on relay fro 12v when key is turned to start, check main wire on starter for 12v with key on start. Check battery voltage with key on to start if voltage drops to below 9.5 starter is bad. Before changing starter, make sure you can turn the engine by hand (with key off) If you can't, don't bother with starter. Before beginning any testing battery should also be load tested to make sure it has amperage as well as voltage capacity to start car.

When I turn the key in my '02 Camry v6, nothing happens. All I hear is a clicking sound coming from the relay switch box. I placed my hands on the solenoid above the starter and there is no vibration. Any...

If you can hear a relay clicking, then your starter relay should be OK. Try tapping the starter solenoid (on the starter) with a hammer while someone cranks the ignition over. Sometimes it'll get jammed or stuck and won't start the car. Try that out - if it works, then you may need to overhaul or replace your starter.
