Try the dist. cap and rotor button; very common for distributor shaft play to wipe out the pickup in the dist, causing engine to die with no warning and not restart.

Here another checking list:
1. Check fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the driver side fuel rail toward the firewall. The valve looks like the valve stem on a tire with a cap. Fuel pressure should be a minimum of 35 psi, I believe.

2. The fact that your truck just up and died would leave me to believe that the loss of crank position sensor or camshaft position sensor (fuel sync) input to the ECU could be the cause.

3. Perform the check for error codes, turn the key on, off, on, off and the on and check to see if the check engine light flashes 2 series of numbers, you will have to count the flashes, may be more than one code.

4. Another possibility could be a defective ignition coil, I would think that this would have given a check engine light.

5. One more possibility, inside the wire harness below the under-hood fues box about 8 to 10 inches down in the wiring harness is a connection where 4 or 5 wires are connected together. This connection can build up corrision that greenish in color, it can cause a loss of voltage to ignition and fuel system. You will have to untape connections to check for the corrision. Make sure battery connections are removed before checking this.

Hope helps.

First you need to retrace your steps...before you changed the timing chain and gears did It run ok ? what was initial problem, next put a fuel pressure gauge on your fuel line and cycle your key on to run pos, dont have to try start, just run and see if you have fuel press during the 3 sec or so pump cycles, should be around i think 35-45 roughly for tbi. so if you have good fuel pressure , then you say you have good spark, then your problem is either ingition or valve timing, did your dist.come loose, did you properly install chain & gears and align timing marks. did you have somethine else a part on it too like intake, dist, ? get back with me I'll try to help you.

is it a 4cyl or v6 and does it have good fuel pressure when in start mode and can you hear pump running it will only run when in start mode so u will have to get someone to help.if it is a 4cyl there is a wiring harness at the intake that runs across the fuel rail that will short to ground and shut the engine off you could lift it up and slide a rag between harness and fuel rail just to check and if that solves the problem you will have to split the intake to repair.also if the truc has ever been wrecked or the windshield replaced you might want to check the circuit opening relay on passengers side next to computer it could have corrision in it from water u can take it apart.

I would check the vacuum lines thoroughly as one may have collasped or previous owner replaced with a substandard one, which may be partially collaspe then upon warming up will vacuum itself shut causing the motor to surge then fail to run or start if it happens to be a main line that is affected.

Hi! The fuel filter may be clogged by dirt and rust causing failure of fuel supply to the engine. Try replacing the fuel filter and it may resolve the problem. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Motor turns over no start. going down the road and died.checked fuel pump.I can hear it and feel it run its ok. and checked fuses there ok

With these new cars, with the multiport fuel injection systems. The line pressure is over 33psi. You have to test the line pressure to make sure it isn't the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.
You will need to verify that the car is getting good spark to the plugs and fuel to the cylinders. If there are any other symptoms let me know.

2001 GMC Sonoma Ext cab 4.3l, quit while running

Pull plug wire and install a philips screwdriver into the plug wire get it 1/4 inch away from a good ground and crank the engine over, is there spark? if so check that you have fuel pressure buy renting a fuel pressure test kit from schucks or auto zone and turn the Key to run position with the gage hooked up, it should read 50 PSI turn key off and wait 20 seconds should still have 20 PSI of fuel pressure, if no fuel pressure check fuel pump relay, then check fuse to pump. if you have a bad relay and are not getting fuel then check the oil pressure switch to see if you have oil pressure at the switch if no pressure then the oil pressure safety switch has died and needs to be replaced and should stark after replacing. If you have fuel then check the timing to see if you slipped timing belt.
