0174 means the system is running to lean on bank 2. I am not sure if it will pass.

Failed emissions with 2001 BMW 325i. Codes given were P0313, P0171 System too lean Bank 1, and P0174 System too lean bank 2. What do these codes mean?

Those codes mean the fuel to air ratio is to lean, not enough fuel. This is caused by quite a few things, most common is a intake manifold vacuum leak or other source (like hoses and the brake booster) A problem with the MAF (mass air flow) sensor can cause this as well if it is reading the incoming air volume wrong.

It failed the emissions test. What do the following codes mean? P0171 and P0174

PO171 System too Lean Bank
P0174 Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2

If the P0171 is combined with the P0174 code, it's very likely that the problem is caused by an intake leak. If there are no intake leaks, the next step is to replaced the air filter and clean the air flow meter. If the problem persist the front oxygen (O2) sensor may need to be replaced.

4 Codes in computer

code p0128 indicates a mechanical fault ( could be the thermostat stuck open)
code p0174 -system too lean -bank2 ===causes --intake /exhaust leak--fuel pressure/pump--injectors--AIR system--hose connection/s
code po171 refers to system too lean bank 1 same as po174 with the HO2S sensor being the culprit. As to all being related . only by way of the o2 sensors
code p0442 is not connected to the first 3 as it is in a different section of the fuel system

I have 99 Chevy Malibu. My check engine light came on. The original codes were for a cylinder misfire and a small emissions leak. I replaced the injector for the cylinder that was misfiring as well as all...

well if you get it scanned again, and you get a lean bank 1 and 2 code then you may have a intake manifold gasket thats leaking. I just worked on a van that had them codes. and I ended up changing the intake manifold gaskets to get it to pass the emissions test for inspection, I live in new york state, po171 and p0174 are the lean codes. we did the maf sensor, new 02 sensors, egr valve and still got this lean code. good-day and god blessyou. it was on a 99 ford windstar van.

Obd ll is comeing up with codes p0174 and p0440

P0174 System Too Lean - Bank No. 2.
P0440 Evaporative Emission Purge Control Solenoid Damaged.
It means that the solenoid that controls the evap system valve has failed and it's keeping it fully open so air is reaching the engine, messing the mixture. Replace the Evap solenoid and its valve.

Emission error code 174

Hi there,

I'm assuming you have extracted code P0174?

If so, P0174 denotes "Bank 2 - System is too lean" - simply means your Oxygen (O2) sensor on Bank 2 of your exhaust has detected a lean situation.

Most probable culprit to check first, is your MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor - it might be dirty or faulty. Also, you could have a dirty Air Filter (triggering bad readings from the MAF), or there could even be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

You will need to check all related components of this circuit.

Cheers,

Scott
