You dont need a jumper, your local Autozone, Advanced, or Oreilly autoparts have readers that they let you use for free. The connector on the 2000 is a standard OBDII connector and they should have the adapter in their kit. Once you get the code you can then search for it on Google. I would suggest if you plan to do maintenance on your wifes car that you invest in a BENTLEY manual. Its the actual factory manual for repair and has 1600 pages of details that any other manual cannot come close to. Its pricey $80 or so on ebay, but well worth it. Sounds like you know a bit about cars so with the detailed instructions in the manual youwould be able to save the cost of it with minor repairs on your own.

FYI.. the OBD connector on that bug is under the left side of steering wheel under dash. ITs kind of hidden, so you can find it easier sitting on ground and looking at underside of dash directly above foot pedals

Electronic pressure control solenoid circuit p1745. Check engine light on 2000 ford escort, 4cl, automatic. Advance auto told me it was a dealer part but I can't find it on any of the ford websites?...

Here is what the service manual says about the EPC solenoid, the processor looks at allot of different inputs to command the solenoids, such as Throttle Position Sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensors, Transmission Range Sensor and RPM signal, The PCM controls the shift patterns for the transmission. Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) Solenoid
The electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is controlled by the PCM. The EPC controls line pressure used to apply and release clutches and bands in the transmission.
The 2-3 shift solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is switched on and off by electrical signals from the PCM. The 2-3 shift solenoid activates the 2-3 shift valve which controls the automatic shifting between second and third gear. Second gear is established when the 2-3 shift solenoid is switched on. The 2-3 shift solenoid is switched off when vehicle speed increases and requires a second to third gear upshift.
The 3-4 shift solenoid is located on the main control valve body and is switched on and off by electrical signals from the PCM. The 3-4 shift solenoid activates the 3-4 shift valve which controls the automatic shifting between third and fourth gear. Third gear is established when the 3-4 solenoid is switched off. The 3-4 shift solenoid is switched on when vehicle speed increases and requires a third to fourth gear upshift.

The P1684 code simply means that the battery has been disconneted within the last 50 engine starts.
maybe this tool can help you clear the fault code.

My 2002 gmc wont shift and code p1870 came up it will stay im low gear

You can replace the transmission valve body as per the instruction or install a new TCC apply valve kit. However the installation requires for the valve body to be removed and honed out by a special tool. I wouldn't recommend this procedure unless you have the proper tools and the know how about the inner workings of the automatic transmissions.

Condition: Some customers may comment on a harsh 1-2 upshift and the Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon indicator is illuminated.

Diagnosis: Typically, these vehicles will have been driven more than 32,000 km (20,000 mi) before this condition occurs.

The scan tool may show a DTC P1870 set as a history code.

A harsh 1-2 shift or DTC P1870, caused by wear in the control valve body, may be difficult to duplicate when the transmission temperature is below 93°C (200°F).

Cause: The condition may be due to wear in the control valve body. This wear occurs in the bore that contains the TCC isolator and regulator valves, and results in poor, or no, TCC apply.

Important:
• DTC P1870 is a type B code. The conditions for setting the P1870 DTC must occur on TWO CONSECUTIVE TRIPS (ignition cycles, with a drive cycle) before setting a P1870 history code.
• When the conditions for setting DTC P1870 are met (first trip), the PCM commands maximum line pressure and harsh 1-2 shifts are the result.
• This may result in a harsh 1-2 shift with no history code if the conditions for setting the DTC required for the second trip are not met, on two consecutive trips (Ignition cycles, with a drive cycle).
• When the conditions for setting the DTC are met, on the second consecutive trip, a DTC P1870 is stored as a history code.
• When the P1870 code is stored, the PCM will turn on the Service Engine Soon (SES), Check Engine Light (CEL), or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).

Correction: Install a control valve body with the revised TCC regulator and isolator valves. Refer to the Parts Information table below. These valves are used in all transmissions produced after January 15, 2000 (Julian Date 0015), and all of the service parts currently available through GMSPO contain revised TCC regulator and isolator valves.

Important: If all of the following conditions are true, it is not necessary to rebuild the transmission or to replace additional transmission components beyond the control valve body.
• Transmission operation is normal before the transmission reaches operating temperature, or before DTC P1870 is set (no slips, flares, or missing gears).
• The torque converter is not blue or overheated.
• The transmission fluid is not burned or has no burned odor.
• The transmission fluid pan contains no abnormal debris (clutch material, bronze, brass, or metal fragments).

My check engine light is on but my car seems to be running just fine. i checked my gas cap and it is on correctly.

For check engine lights (CELs) please head to your nearest AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts. They will have a diagnostic tool that can read the CEL and pull the code. You can then look the code up and figure out what is causing the CEL. Once this is fixed the CEL should no longer come on.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 Jetta TDI and the yellow "check" light stays on all the time. It has been on for several years. Garages can't tell me what is wrong. The car runs fine.

When Check Engine Light ( CEL ) turn on, you need to have the codes read. Some places will read them for FREE. There are some other threads in this Forum that recommend to go to Autozone (or another parts store) where they will provide you a code reading free of charge. Get the exact code (like P0XXX) not just their and post it back here.

In THIS LINK could find additional interesting information about TDI FAQ.

Regarding warning lights:
- if the coolant temp light comes on, shut off the engine ASAP
- if the oil warning light comes on, shut off the engine ASAP
- if a falshign MIL/CEL comes on, shut off the engine ASAP

ASAP means driving to the berm of the highway right now and not waiting for the next exit. But if the MIL/CEL is not flashing, then it's not an urgent indicator.

Its possible that one simple unplug or any bad signal sensor. Are you recently make any mechanical job there?

Hard shifting in my 99 sierra z71 automatic throws a dtc code p1870. turn it off for a min. and it's ok for a while. I don't detect any slippage but pull up to a light and stop then when you start up it...

This code can come from a variety of problems. Could be a bad O-ring, or a shift solenoid, even worn clutch rings. Could even just need a computer update/reprogram. Unfortunately its not an easy diagnosis because of the wide range of possible causes. You are probably going to have to take it in.

My truck is acting up

Check to see if the throttle shift position cable that goes to the transmission is sticking or that the return tension spring might be streached or broken Mine was sticking I had hard upshifts when it finally shifted later than it should & also erratic down shits when coming to a stop. Replaced the cable & used fluid film on the lever going into the transmission Better than a $ 2000 to $3000
