Do not do it!!!! The dash basically does not come out. Everything on it comes through it. You can get the radio out without removing the dash, I don't know how but it does. I just took the dash out of a junk truck just for the wiring harness, You gotta be kidding me. I knew it could never go back in and be right. I suppose it could but t would take weeks. The steering wheel has to come off, there are bolts inside the vents holding it on, A million switches and wires, and the ac unit is a bunch of unforgiving cables that never get hooked back up right. If you want to save some time and trouble, just go to a store like best buy where they install radios, they can do it in 10 minutes, where it would take you 3 hours just to figure it out. Hope this helps.

Factory stereo not working and needs replaced. how does dash come apart to do this

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove cup holder.
  3. Remove trim panel above cupholder by pulling straight out.
  4. Remove center instrument panel trim panel.
  5. Remove screws holding radio to instrument panel.
  6. Pull radio rearward to gain access to the back of radio (RADIO). CAUTION: Pulling the antenna cable straight out of the radio without pulling on the locking antenna connector could damage the cable or radio.
  7. Disconnect the antenna cable by pulling the locking antenna connector away from the radio (ANTENNA TO RADIO).
  8. Disconnect bolt holding ground strap to the radio (if equipped).
  9. Disconnect the wire connectors from the back of the radio.

How do you remove the factory radio from a 97 s 10 pickup

Here is a link that should help you remove the factory unit. There is no instructions for the 1995-1998 but the 1999-2000 have the same mounting brackets, the only difference id the trim and radio shape. The 1995-1998 are square as to the 1999-2000 have rounded edges.

Thank you time and take extra care when moving the dash trim up and over the hazard light switch on top of the steering unit.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck .

Replacing radio, need to know how to remove dash

dash is ismply snapped into place. There are only plugs in teh dash if your model is a 4wd. It's easiest to tilt the steering wheel all the eay down for removal of the dash bezel. Once the bezel is removed there are only two screws holding in the factory radio.

How to take dash apart to get to the radio

The moulding around the radio removes quite easily. Remove the ashtray, 2 screws. Remove the slideout cupholder. 2 screws. The moulding around the radio pulls straight out. It has slideout or popout clips. Once that is removed, unscrew the 2 10 mm or philips screws that hold the radio in. Slide out the radio, another 10 mm ground screw on back, then unplug the antenna, 2 electrical connectors and that's it. I dont recommend an aftermarket radio without a schematic or someone that knows what they're doing. Like in the chiltons books, "reverse disassembly procedure to reassemble". Hope this helps
