Same issue, It runs because you are providing a constant fuel supply when using ether, stop and it stops. The fuel (GAS) is supplied to each combustion chamber (cylinder) as it is needed at point of ignition by the cars Engine Control Unit. Since you replaced fuel pump and filter, did you check to make sure fuel is making it to the block (motor) you have to remove the fuel line from the injector block to test this. when you turn the key to run but NOT start you should hear the fuel pump hum and then fuel should start shooting out of this hose. Have a rag around it to catch fuel. If this happens turn car ignition off at that point. YOU HAVE FUEL getting to engine..Second, now that you have fuel the question is whether it is at the correct PSI pressure. These models require a certain PSI from the pump to actuate. If the pump is not putting out enough pressure, eventhough new, then it could be a fuel pressure issue. The only way to check the pressure is by a mechanic with a pressure gauge fitting. If you have verified both of those then last two options are teh ECU and Cam position sensor. The cam position sensor tells the ECU when to inject fuel into the proper cylinder based on firing order. If the position snesor is bad it wont send fuel to the correct cylinder based on cam position and therefore a cylinder not ready to fire is getting fuel while a firing cylinder is dry! Finally if all that is good then its the ECU and YES they do go bad (unfortunately all cars are computerized now and not like the old 70's with points and a distributor) If the ECU is bad you will need to buy a new one and have it encoded to your VIN number on the vehicle. The dealer can get this but they charge MEGABUCKS..you cant just take one out of a junk yard either. The best place is to search Google for an ECU for your model and find a dealer that will program for you to your vin.. and yes it has to be programmed. The average price I have found in the past is $150-300 dollars.

replace fuel filter replace air filter, clean fuel injectors because they could be dirty clogged with carbon causing injectors to stick open and keep spraying fuel when engine off flooding engine.code scan for faulty engine coolant temperature sensor or CMP sensor.

U have a 98 kia sportage 2.0 replaced fuel pump. i do have fire but im not getting any fuel to the injectors. i can spray stuff in the air intake and it will stay running as long as im spraying it in but...

First thing you need to do is measure the fuel pressure while it's running. If there is none, then check the fuel pump fuse and relay. It's also possible that the new pump is bad. If it is, suggest getting an OEM pump as the aftermarket ones are usually of lesser quality and it's not a job you want to repeat right away.

Engine runs ruff idles low up and down. already replaced throttle position switch

Their are several posibilities for this type of concern. Some of the common ones for this year Sportage are. 1. a vacuum leak. 2. Clogged injectors due to a rusty gas tank. ( their is a recall for this) 3. Cam timing jumped.
The easiest one to check first is for a vacuum leak. You can use a spray bottle with soapy water to spray on the vacuum lines and intake. If it smooths out or you see the water get "sucked in" to the area that you sprayed you found your problem. The next easiest one to check for is the rust in fuel.
Remove the fuel filter and drain the fuel into a cup by blowing thru the outlet of the filter.

2002 kia sportage wont start unless starting fluid is sprayed in, then runs fine for a couple of days, problem returns. shows no code

Hi,

It sounds like you have a problem with the fuel system.

Check the fuel filter, fuel pump, pressure regulator and injectors.

Hope this helps

1993 chevrolet silverado 1500 will not start has new filter and pump can spray fuel in to it will start then dies when it runs out of the fuel sprayed it it

It sounds like your injectors are not firing which could be a crank signal problem or wiring, distributor pickup coil problem or a computer problem. One wire to your injector should be pink this is the power wire it should have around 11.5-12 volts with the key on. The other wire is ground that the computer uses to fire the injector which you can check with a good test light hooked to voltage. and work back from that point if you have neither at the injector.

2000 kia sportage trouble code po171 once in awhile, runs lean when cold,ok warm. i have 2 of these cars, changed over , map, tps ,idle sensors. also changed fuel injectors, filters ,fuel pump, fuel pressure...

I have 2005 Kia Sportage with a check engine light. No other symptoms. I was told by Kia and Local mechanic that it is the fuel injectors. Error Code states that Fuel injectors are running lean. Put Master airflow- no change. Ran engine test with propane to run rich and trim never changed from 15. Car runs great. Kia dealer said that this is because we use Ethel in gas that it effects the alumium fuel rail delivery to the injectors and that it is necessary to change all of them .Kia Dealer wants $1,000.00 deposit to place order 6 fuel injectors from Kia. (Has anyone heard of that?)Also put fuel injector cleaner in tank.Does anyone have any suggestions before I spend over $1,000.00 to replace all 6 injectors or possible idea of what could be wrong?

Cannot get 1987 chevy van 20 to keep running... stalls out

Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.
