Yes, you should always dis-connect the battery when you are removing or replacing the ECU/ECM/PCM.

Also, the ECM (Engine Control Module) and the engine control computer are the same thing.

Did you check the fuse in the under hood fuse box ? GEN / BATT fuse 10amp . Is your check engine light on ? This is a computer controlled charging system , it should have four wires connected to the alternator . 1 - the heavier wire on the back ,this comes fro the starter - the one with fusible link , you could have checked for battery voltage with voltmeter ! The three other wires in the connector are the orange one ,this comes from the GEN / BATT fuse an should have battery voltage ! The last two come from the PCM - engine computer . The gray wire is the turn on signal from the PCM an the Red wire is the control from PCM ! Charging System Wiring Diagram MOTOR Magazine Article MOTOR Information Systems

Will it hurt the 03 kia spectra to disconnect pos from the batt while running. I'm asking because i did and it still ran and while using a volt meter to see what my batt getting, my wife turns o

Yes it can hurt the electrical system if you disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
It can toast the diodes in the alternator and cook the computer along with other problems.
You'll need to check the fuses and the engine computer.

What would cause the battery to go dead every 3 or 4 days?

A short in the wiring or depending on the amount of driving you do a bad alternator.

Won't start..new batt. Starts to turn over then just kinda rumbles. Fuel pump shutoff switch is stuck in the down position.

Shut off switch should be down if it was up there would be no fuel to engine,Sounds like the starter needs to be checked, Or the wires to it need checked, clean and tight.

Hello, I have a 96 tercel with a 4sp man. I recently replaced the speedo cable to fix a MIL on due to VSS code. The cable had been broken for some time. After in stalling the new cable I still have the VSS...

you have to replace the speed sensor itself not just the cable to correct that problem, the cable doesnt do anything with the computer, try that sensor and youll be ok.

The ecm fuse

Hi, this could be caused by a short circuit in the ECM or it more commonly found a short circuit in the alternator. Disconnect the battery wire from the alternator, make sure that the wire does not touch any part of the body or engine. Replace the fuse and see if it still blows the fuse. If the problem is solved, replace the alternator, if nor you will need to test the wires for a short circuit.
