2001 GMC Savana 3500 - cannot separate the steering column shaft

I am replacing my steering box, but I cannot separate the steering column shaft from the input shaft on the box... I loosened the retaining bolt, but cannot get the collar to spread apart from the splined input shaft. I tried blunt force with a hammer and then heating with a plumbers torch (map gas), but to no avail... any secrets, hints, or specials tools? GREATLY appreciated!!!

THERE IS A PINCH BOLT UNDER THE COUPLING LOOSEN IT SHAFT SHOULD COME OFF.

As stated, I loosened the retaining bolt (pinch bolt). The problem is that I cannot separate the pinch collar to release the shaft. Any tricks? There isn't much room to maneuver to get leverage and the gap in the collar is only wide enough for a medium sized screwdriver to fit anyway?
    Thanks for your reply!

Just wondering, did you remove the bolt completely, there is a mechined notch for the bolt to slid by and hold the shaft in. I am sorry, but you said that it was loosed, nothing about removing the bolt.

How ttake steering column out of a 1949 chevy truck 2 wheel drive

yes - the column will come out separate to the steering box but remember that the column has to come all the way up to get it of the steering shaft which is part of the box. That means if you do not have the room in the cab for the length of the column to come past the steering wheel then you will have to remove the box . Really it is quicker to pull the pitman arm of the box --undo the column brackets --remove the steering wheel ---undo the box off the chassis and pull the lot out past the springs.

How to change brakes on a 2001 gmc savana 3500

Any brake work on your vehicle, is not any different
or more difficult than most other vehicles

There is more to brake service or work, than just changing
out brake pads

If you plan on working on your own vehicles, in any area
& have never done so before,I don't see how that would be
possible

I think you know a repair shop has the experience & equip
to do that sort of work.

99 GMC JIMMY. STEERING LOCKS DOWN SOMETIMES AFTER 1/4 TURN OF STEERING WHEEL. CHANGED PS PUMP, CHANGED STEERING GEAR BOX, CHANGED DRAG LINK, CHANGED BALL JOINTS, NO SIGN OF PHYSICAL BINDING WHAT IS...

Could be steering shaft on bottom of column that connects column to gearbox. Rag joint or u-joints on shaft are dry or seized. Try spraying rubber rag joint & u-joints on steering shaft with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster. Work steering wheel all the way to left, spray, then turn all the way to right & spray some more.

2001 Savana No start cap and rotor replaced but gets dirty with black carbon and needs to be cleaned with sand paper then it starts ok.

Check for play in the shaft and replace the cap and rotor with OEM parts, some of the cheap replacements are not working out on that model.

2005 GMC Savana ,where is the OBD-2 link?

They are typically located at the right or left side of the steering column under the dash at the sound panel. Look at the sound panel and you will see a hole in the panel and the connector should be visible.
Let me know.
