Question about 2003 Suzuki Aerio
A common problem that happens to most fuel injected vehicles is a part called the I.A.C. Motor(Idle Air Control Motor) depending on how many miles you have on the vehicle these motors tend to carbon (soot) up and the pintle inside sticks causing the idle to be rough and raggy.
The part can be any where from $80.00-150.00 depending upon the vehicle, If you have an Auto Zone Parts store or the like, in your neighborhood, they can scan your engines emmisions system and check for codes for free, at that time they will give you a print out and an estimate of how much the parts cost and where the parts are located on your engine if they find emmision failure codes.
Another basic failure is dirty fuel, did this condition happen after a fuel up at a local gas station? If yes then you may have a condition that can be simply solved by adding fuel injector cleaner and dry gas to your tank along with running a full tank of high octane fuel if your engine can support that to help clear it out.
If your fuel is dirty, a fuel filter change may be needed, to do this you must remove the gas cap, engine off, electric fuel pump fuse pulled out of the fuse panel(clearly marked fuel pump) usually is a 7.5 or 10 amp fuse to avoid an accident should the pump run with the fuel lines disconnected and fuel under pressure. The filter is mounted under the vehicle on the gas fill side of the fuel tank and close to the frame(metal filter approx 2 1/2 " long X approx. 2" round, when replacing be sure you follow the in and out flow arrows marked on the filter. I don't think you have seriously dirty fuel as the vehicle would really behave poorly while accelerating as well as idling.
If you have to replace the filter let some of the fuel empty into a clean glass container to inspect for any contaminants of dirt or water, if either is detected it may be possible the fuel tank will have to be drained and flushed along with blowing out the fuel lines etc.
