Question about 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

My 1999 t&c limited.cranks on,but shut down in 20 seconds. is it the alternator,battery,fuse, or alarm system?

The fuel pump works off the oil pressure switch upon starting up the engine. Once the engine reaches normal operating oil pressure that circuit is shut off by the computer then the computer turns the circuit on for the fuel pump relay.

You have a faulty fuel pump relay since the engine starts up and receives good oil pressure then shuts down for the relay is no good

    when the guy changed the cluster,that's when the problem started. it ran fine until then.

Alarm goes off for no reason. where is the fuse for the alarm system


Won't be a fuse, or you would have an
open circuit & no power to set off the alarm

Replacing a blown fuse won't do anything but
blow again, until you find & fix why it failed

The engine turning over & the engine cranking is the same thing,
are you not aware of that

You have a no start condition,failed fuel pump I would think

Alternator wont charge


at alternator gig wire battery voltage,one wire battery volts one less . battery volts wire goes to automatic shut down relay, less then battery voltage wire to pcm fuse will be 20 amp just ck all that size.

hi, this could be you have not reset the ALARM, when you toke the battery off. please undo the NAGATIVE lead OFF the BATTERY and hold the battery lead ON (for 2 seconds) then take battery lead OFF. you will hear the ALARM make a funny noise (this resets the alarm), put the battery lead ON again and the alarm should SOUND then tighten the NEGATIVE LEAD TO THE BATTERY. if not you need to get the ALARM TO SOUND, need to undo battery NEGATIVE and do the same as above. there is a knack to it. then this will work. THE SYSTEM IS LIKE THIS FOR SECURITY RESONS. gerry

Can the security alarm of a car shut down the battery or alternator? Can the security system drain the battery constantly? Just had the battery and alternator replaced. This is a 1999 Ford Windstar Mini...


If there is an alarm that sounding 24 hrs a day, yes, it can drain your battery.
I can't go by what somebody else said or didn't say. I can't go by what was or wasn't replaced. If you replace a component and the wiring circuit is faulty, it still won't work, even if the part is new. By the way, I'm not a fan of rebuilt parts. If you want to do some testing, I will try to help, but, you have to do the testing. Use a digital multimeter across battery posts, if you don't have one, get one. With the meter on, engine off, place leads across battery posts, The generic spec for a full charge is 12.6 volts, if battery is down, get it charged or we're just spinning our wheels. Usually the digital multimeter has a 10 amp setting, where you can check battery amp draw with everything off, On that setting you use the meter in series with one of your battery cables, engine off. A generic amp draw spec is around 50 ma, that is .050 not even a tenth of an amp. If the reading is very high, check for lights left on, interior--under the hood, where ever. Best time to check is in the dark. If that is ok, pull/replace fuses one at a time, when you pull the fuse on problem circuit, the drain returns to normal. Then you check everything on that fuse circuit to find the problem. If you want to check charging system, begin by checking for charging system trouble codes. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free, if there are any. I don't know if they will check manufacturer specific codes? You can get an obd2 code reader. Your computer has control over charging system. Also, you can see fuses and fusible links. Check the basics before worrying about the pcm. Just my opinion.

I replaced my battery and my vehical still stalled


You probably have a blown alternator fuse. Your car will run great with no indication (warning light on the dash) that it is not charging the battery. When the battery is dead you stop on the side of the road, The fuse is either in the box under the hood (probably a square 50 amp?). On my car it is part of the positive battery clamp. Look closely with a flash light. If this is the case , it is a dealer only part about $12 to $20.

The battery/ brake light was caused by the alternator. so make sure the battery is good and good connections. turn the headlights on and be sure they are bright.

Alarm drains battery when on or off want to disconnct altogether


If you can see the actual alarm module you should be able to trace the wires to a few fuses. You'll be looking for the smaller red or yellow wire. There hould be a larger one also, probably the one you cut before. Try taking the fuse out of the holder on the smaller wire. If the car won't crank then, you probably have a ignition shut off relay, which can be a little more difficult to remove. Let me know if this helps :)
