We put a new fuel pump on my 1996 izusu hombre. Now when you crank it up after running a ways it spits and sputters then dies. Could this problem be because it needs a new ignition switch

no engine stated (fail time. that)
why the pump , tell reason first not mid story.... works best......!!
engine starts and stalls and misfires badly.
this can be caused by 50 thing's , NO KIDDING!
but in a real shop? we use Physics to find it. 5 rules.
5 tools. to measure the physics.... far more easier than guessing ever will be....
Ill give wild useless guessing now, as most seem to want here.
no tools, no gauges, no $10 elm scan tool.. (USA answers all)

1: lost 12vdc power to the EFI and spark systems.
2: bad engine, low compression , or never changed the cam belt.
3: bad spark, not doing a full tunup in a decade. top cause world wide.
4: EFI system OVER or under fueling for any of 20+ reasons... scan it yet?
5: other causes, making engine useless. EGR stuck open, or CAT melted closed.

each path as a simple tests.
wanna gue$$ or TEST?
your call......

2000 Isuzu Hombre/Chevy S-10, 2.2L 4cyl. It starts fine, but wants to stall until it warms up a bit. After that, putting it into gear, it tries to stall. Any acceleration at first, it wants to stall. Once...

its really a GM car, end to end.

no engines codes, is not true i bet ,
some codes take 1 to 3 trips, or dont store
and if you get CEL glowing, driving too much can clear the codes.
so.... that means you must scan it failing. see?

sputtering is misfiring (bad spark or way to rich fuel)

why do you jump all over fuel first.
try spark FIRST no gas engine burn fuel right with bad spark'
not one, and is first not last.
ever heard of tuneup, done one in last decade.
you know, spark parts? plugs and wire top list.

in the rules of basics its:
engine good, (compression test pass, and vacuum looks ok)
then spark
last fuel
why do that backwards/?

I have a 1998 isuzu hombre 2.2l 4cyl. and I replaced the fuel pump and I get power to the sending unit when the key is turned on but no power to the pump andy ideas?

if u took the bed off make sure the ground is hook back up to the frame that should allowed the pump to come on.need to change the fuel pump relay when changing fuel pump, that could be why the pump stop working before u change the old pump.

1996 izzuz hombre ... turns over wont start sometimes . sometime does start. when start runs real rough, missing. things i know - new starter, new fuel pump, doesnt fire on 1st spark plug and no one know...

Your problem sounds like the distributor, points and pig tail wire.
I suggest you try changing the distributor / servicing the points and pigtail wire.

The reason why p 1 inst firing is cause it isn't getting any power from the distributor. because of this it has the ripple effect your experiencing.

It could be the fuse for the fuel pump or the fuel filter.

Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.
