Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

3 Answers

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero V6. It will turn over, but not start. Fuel pump is new. AAA driver suggested that it could be electrical. Seems like it's just not getting a spark, but according to him fuses are fine. any ideas?

Its your security light. put key in ignition until the security light goes off. turn key all the way off after. then start it. should start right up.

Why won't my 2001 Alero (2.4) start?

The most likely causes on the Alero are either a clogged fuel filter (which should be replaced every 30,000 miles in order to avoid damage to the fuel pump), or a weak or bad fuel pump. I'd start with replacing the fuel pump since it's the cheapest fix, the part costs about $20 at the Auto Parts Store. Here's a link to the fuel filter location and replacement:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_fuel_filter_located_and_how_do_you_replace_it_on_a_2001_Oldsmobile_Alero

The fuel pump replacement is more work and more money. The part costs between $100 and $150 to buy nif your a DIY, or about $650 for parts & labor at a repair shop. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, so the gas tank will need to be dropped if the pump is to be replaced.

How do you reset the electric fuel pump on a 2001 oldsmobile alero . I had the car towed and i replaced the fuel pump but it still wont start

there is not a re-set on the pump. There is a relay on the fuse box I believe. it sounds like you have an electrical problem. Are you sure you have all the connectord connected? Ground wire?

My 2001 oldsmobile alero starts, but when I go to take off it seems as it is not getting fuel, it drives very rough and is slow to accelerate. The fuel filter has been changed. Hooked up to a computer...

probably dirty injectors, most likely fuel pump.when the fuel pressure is low,it will idle fine but when you want to accelerate it will not get enough fuel

Car wil crank but will not start

First, turn just the ignition switch to ON. You should hear the electric fuel pump run for a few seconds. If not, start tracing the fuel pump circuits.
If the fuel pump runs, check the fuel pressure to be sure it is correct. Next look to be sure you are getting spark.

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, 3400 V6.

could be. have someone verify that you have good fuel pressure 35-40PSI , at 130k miles could be the fuel pump.

Alero

it could possible be your fuel pump. If your fuel filter is going bad that want stop it from starting. I have a 2002 alero. I done have both fuel pump and fuel filter go bad. so i have a little experience with them.

Alero will crank awhile before it finally starts w/ more details

May have small fuel leak or fuel pump sending unit leak down. Or fuel pump psi low.

After 30 minutes try this turn key on. do not try to start wait 10 seconds turn key off then on again 10 seconds then try & start if it starts right away fuel system is losing PSI either back through the fuel pump or a leak in line. If you can find no leaks would suggest replace fuel pump & assembly.
Another possible but rare fuel injectors may be leaking fuel over time & dropping PSI needed for start up.

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero V6. The car turns over and sometimes will start and run for a few seconds before it cuts out. It also cuts out when I attempt to give it gas while parked after the engine...

when it dies out try shooting a little fuel into the throat of your throttle body or air cleaner and see if it starts back up .. if it does you have a fuel problem like clogged filter or bad pump , thanks Jerry holler if you need more.
