My 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup, No headlights.

My 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup, all of a sudden has no headlights or tail lights. There is no fuse for them. I have checked and there is no power to the headlight switch. Where could the problem be?

Have you checked for fuse/relay box under hood on drivers side?

  • gwlhsheets Jun 06, 2010

Yes; There is a fuse box under the hood, and also one on the side of the dash on the drivers side. Neather one has a fuse or a relay for the headlights. Two local part suppliers list a Headlight Relay, but they don't show the location. The local Dodge dealer parts dept. didn't have a clue about a headlight relay. Does anyone know the location of the headlight relay for a 2001 Dakota?

There is a fuse you may have more then one fuse box look under the hood & under the dash. Most of the time Chrysler will just put a number next to the fuses. Go to your owners manual & see what number is your head light fuse. If you still can't find the right fuse take your test light & check both side of each fuse if one side lights up & one side does not replace it with the same size fuse.

2001 dodge dakota sport 4x4 V8, tail lights not working. turn signal and brake lights are working. where do I start in order to get my tail lights working?

I think I would start at the headlight switch. If your turn signals are working that means that the wires from inside of the cab to the taillights are good.

1994 dodge dakota my headlights and tail lights and brake lights don't work my abs and parking brake lights are on my dash lights don't work either I replaced the headlight switch and still no

These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse.
Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?

No power to tail lights or license plate light.

check the fuse with a test light on both sides of the fuse,
next would be the headlight switch.

Back tail lights won't light up

check the bulbs, theyre probably the double filament bulbs and one can go out but not the other. If the bulbs are ok, check your fuses and tail light relay

Tail lights don't work on 2001 dodge dakota

Check the fuse panel info in your owner manual. Check out the fuse but it will more likely be a corrosion problem where the ground wire leaves the tail lights and bolts to the frame. To uncorrode your ground wire purchase a spray can of electrical wire cleaner at the autoparts store.
