Question about 2005 Nissan Xterra
Could be that your tires are larger size than factory spec and therefore rub against the plastic trim when wheels are turned. Easy to check - just turn the wheels all the way and then have a look if they are rubbing against anything.

This sis usually caused by defective strut tower bearings.
